To avoid new piracy blocking requirements, VPN provider AirVPN will no longer accept Italian customers in a few days.

AirVPN is also based out of Italy right? I wonder what will eventually happen for AirVPN which is highly recommended after Mullvad VPN closed their port forwarding offer.

after mullvad diabled pirt forwarding, proton was the king for me

I hope AirVPN can still stay in business. I also hope that other governments don’t start getting ideas.

It really surprised me that they’re based in Italy.

Between all the Western countries it’s the stupidest one to base a VPN company. The management risks prison time for little gain, why not Cyprus or the Caribbean like anyone else? Open a shell company in the Bahamas and still operate from Perugia if they really like to live in the Italian countryside

Italy is a country controlled by copyright trolls, for an Italian citizen using them as a piracy VPN is an insane idea, why not just be unprotected at that point?

It’s almost like choosing China or Russia as base

Yeah when I was looking for a replacement of Mullvad VPN AirVPN came to my radar but I didn’t choose it because it was based on Italy which I was confused.

Ugh. Horseshit.

It is every citizen’s duty to make the government block as many IP addresses as possible. When the Italians have no Internet, maybe they’ll reconsider.

Why does italy hate piracy so much?

The soccer clubs are a big business in Italy so they just force the government to pass a law to be more strict about piracy. Now I think Italy is one of the worst places to be a pirate , because everyone has to stop you from pirating. Your ISP , the DNS server , and even VPN’s.

Italian here, it’s pretty rare for them to go against little pirates, at most they go against some massive releases or streamers. Also ProtonVPN has servers in Italy with port forwarding that allows piracy, so there’s that.

Oh yes of course but as more and more countries become anti piracy Proton will eventually stop doing port forwarding.
