Not sure if that is an option for you too, but I have a scanwatch light myself. It is a hybrid smartwatch, being a classic analog watch with a small black and white display in the background.
The scanwatch products are health focused, allowing the user to track a variety of health stats like heartrate, activities and sleep analysis. It is very energy efficient, requring a a recharge about once a month in my case.
It is noteworthy that the hybrid concept makes some cuts to the smartness of the watch, for example replying to messages from the watch is not possible, only reading them as they come in. It doesn’t have touch functionality either, instead you control it with the bezel.
You can configure in the smartphone app which apps are allowed to relay notifications to the watch, giving you the option to filter out most noise that is not relevant to your mom. You can also set up activity plans to track and/or remind her to engage in some moderate activities like taking a walk.
Do note though that the watch asks for a subscription for some premium functions, like workout plans and more in depth health analysis. I don’t have that myself either though, being able to generally monitor my activities is enough for me. The watch also relies on the paired smartphone for its gps functionality, without the phone it would essentially be reduced to a classic wristwatch.
What kind of logic is that? It is perfectly reasonable to care about human rights and totalitarianism but not for copyrights. In fact it seems a bit questionable that you would use the speeding ticket of online rule violations as an excuse to completely discard any other moral considerations.

I think it’s a safe bet they had their legal teams sifting through the whole DMA to find a way to comply while making it as obnoxious as possible to the user, the third party providers, and everyone else pretty much.
Though it’s also pretty evident that this is bad faith compliance and not in the spirit of the DMA, so the EU legislators will hopefully slap them with another fine.

It’s not even a valid excuse any more at this point. People can get vaccinated at their leisure against the current variants no problem, and other fat old dudes don’t get to bail on an uncomfortable situation either, this is just special treatment for the rich. Also all the accommodations that are already being made with everyone wearing masks. Also I’m sure they can open a fucking window or so for some fresh air
I’m okay with that. The golden streaming age was when there was one platform that had virtually everything available (early Netflix) for a fair price. That was also when many people gave up on piracy, because the availability and convenience was the same, and the price was fair as well.
Ideally this short sighted greed decimates all those streaming services again, collapsing all those spread out shows and movies into a convenient and affordable platform like it used to be.
At least music streaming services have largely avoided this walled garden crap, most of them have the same range and selection of artists and music available as the others because making music exclusive works even less than for shows and movies. Notably this has also helped to avoid undue price spikes because good competition is ensured.
A large IP reform that consolidates licensing and patent agreements into a single one: automatically granted to anyone who applies, cannot be denied to ensure competition, always provides a fixed percentage that cannot be arbitrarily changed on a whim.
Also, rights to IP can only be held by living human beings that are also its creator or have been directly involved in its creation, cannot be sold or inherited. and are relinquished upon death.
The idea being that IP rights cannot stifle innovation or competition, but ensure that good ideas are still rewarded appropriately. This will also end corporations vacuuming up any new idea potentially useful for mankind to make a for profit version later.
Not necessarily a pirate dream, but I really wouldn’t mind paying a fair amount for a good product as long as it goes to the person who actually made it and is freely available immediately. Fucking geoblocking
I should preface this by saying that I am extremely underwhelmed with starfield, but I’ve been going back to playing space engineers for my sci fi exploration cravings. Everything i was looking forward to in starfield seems to be compromise after compromise, tied together by loading screens. And the setting looks good on paper but really can’t draw me in.
At least in SE, outdated and poorly optimized as it may be, I am loading into the map once and then could fly from earth to the most remote planet without a single interruption (except real life sleep maybe, because it would take literal hours to make the trip without a jump drive).
