The admin team here has decided to quarantine all musk spam to one community, so that people can easily block it, and won’t have to read his takes.

Use !enough_musk_spam@lemmy.ml for now, or the musk spam communities elsewhere. In the future we can re-evaluate whether to keep any communities for rocket jesus at all.

Anyone else besides me want a moratorium on musk spam? No one should have to see anything he tweets.

The object man appears behind you while you’re coding and inserts a null reference that takes you a day to find.

No probs! Yeah it’s wild that a lot of people not only using cloudflare sites, but also running them, don’t seem to mind that cloudflare is hoovering up everything.

I’m not sure if this is ironic bc I’ve been exposed to too many irony-poisoned comments lately, but cloudflare exists to profit off your data. They’re not there to help you, your data and its trends are the product.

None of the above is easily possible, a lot of us do it.

Appreciate the humility, thx.

Trusting US corporations by default rule

You have no proof that they’re “good right now”. The big five corporations were forwarding data to the NSA for years before the surveillance leaks exposed them.

Your privacy default should not be to trust an MITM, ever.

There’s no proof they aren’t doing anything nefarious with that data right now, other than company statements saying, “trust us”.

People default to trusting giant corporations first it seems.

Cloudflare has been around for over a decade and doesn’t do anything nefarious with my data and have never shown any intention of doing so

Citation needed.

They’re a giant middleman getting everything you put into html forms unencrypted.

That includes all your usernames, passwords, and everything you submit via text boxes. Do not trust any site that uses cloudflare.

The pirates innovated and made content available long before the corporations did.

Before streaming services took off, it was the only way to get movies and music (besides some IRC rooms). There were even a few golden years where movies would get leaked to torrents in full quality, before the theatrical release.

Music too was easier to find on napster, limewire, and torrents, than your local music store.

The level of entitlement is the same, but the main difference is that companies have buffer layers standing in between the people doing the work, and the people receiving the complaints. Programmers there are shielded from receiving hundreds of thousands of complaints directly from users. Those buffer layers don’t exist in open source.

I had to learn kotlin to code Jerboa, and while it’s better than java or javascript by miles, it still doesn’t come close to rust. Android studio is especially terrible, and it crashes my dedicated server pretty frequently.

Yep, this is already a solved problem via torrents. All that’s needed is a site (like lemmy or something else) to host the links, and help with content discovery.

No probs! The best way to get started (after you’ve learned some rust), would be to find a smaller issue or feature you’d like, and then comment on that issue, or in our dev matrix chat, if you need any help. We appreciate any help we can get on improving the code.

We’re probably hitting close to the all-time high of unread notifications on github… I’m at 1752 rn, only watching lemmy projects.

It does feel like I’ve become the personal issue tracker for a few thousand people all the sudden. 99% of ppl are nice, but there’s always someone demanding free labor to fix their pet issue, while offering to do none of the work themselves, and making ultimatums that they won’t use your software until it gets added.

It’s like okay then??? I’m not selling a product, so I don’t care. I’ve essentially set up a free cookie stand and they’re complaining at me that I don’t have rainbow sprinkles.

You’re right. I was going 100% for the last week, 4 hours of sleep, but now I’m taking more breaks and taking some time out to relax :) Hopefully things will calm down after this month.

Use the report button if you see any of that too, we will not tolerate it here.

Reddit thrives off of letting homophobes and transpbobes ruin everyone’s day, because it drives up their engagement numbers. We aren’t going to allow that here.

Yep this is a cool idea, at least in the short term.

Now I only have to answer ~300 replies and private messages until I can get back to coding!

I highly recommend going with a casio f-91W or one of its variants, like the metal band one.

Extremely light, cheap, reliable, 10+ year battery life, works underwater, and it doesn’t spy on you.
