Yes, that is the point I am making, and the argument your government is making for canceling the contract.

If trump were to cut off logistical support for that or any other whim, they would have to be mothballed.

There was the “kill switch” rumour recently that trump (any president) can remotely disable any/all f35s they wanted to

It’s probably not true, but the truth is just as disasterous for foreign buyers.

A shutdown of parts out of US does essentially the same and is much easier to do on a whim and withhold the solution in negotiations.

People weren’t just buying US because “we’re the best” it’s because we could be relied on for support, because no one fucksnwith the US military industrial complex

trump is tho, and that’s a hell of a lot more dangerous for a politician than pissing off day traders

Lots of places play loosely with the terminology, but in general:

Refurbished: they wipes the dust off

Recertified: had an issue, was sent back to manufacturer who fixed it and checked everything else.

Past advice was always buy new, but drives last much longer than they used to. And lots of business replace to be safe when a drive could last another decade just fine.

You’re talking about actions of oligarchs to protect their own wealth.

I’m talking about actions of your government to protect it’s citizens.

Two completely different things.

If that was happening, sure.

But it’s not, so I have no idea why you’re so optimistic

Your heart is in the right place, I think.

You just don’t seem to know about what you’re talking about.

What they need to do is prioritize artic shipping rather than staying dependent on land exports from America.

Most of what is imported to Canada via the US was made elsewhere and US is just a middle man.

Canada needs to remove US military alliance today.

I used to be surprised people kept walking into obvious traps…

Now I’m just numb to it.

Like, your big suggestion on how to get trump back… Is to do exactly what he wants?!

“Now”…

Pretty sure Operation Beaver Drop was in the 70s. We’ve known that the increased water retention not only acts as a natural fire barrier, but it’s incredibly beneficial to local biodiversity.

It’s just that not only is there no money to be made in the process, wetlands can’t really be used for anything that produces money.

Direct from Seagate wouldn’t be bad, check their store first to see if you can cut out Amazon.

I was talking about random reseller stores. “Manufacturer refurbished” for things you can’t see is almost always a good idea. The manufacturer has their brand name on the line and usually go over common fail points and replace if it looks worn.

Stores/Amazon doing “renewed” means they tried to cover up superficial damage and is completely different. It might look ok on the outside and be complete junk on the inside.

Think of “renewed” as “open box returns” except it might have taken the last user 5 years to return. It’s a much worse gamble.

Depends.

If it’s “buy from Amazon” then you can return it with no issue if shits bad.

If Amazon is just the middleman, than the seller could be scamming and will either fight returns or just close up shop. I wouldn’t buy any used electronic over $200 from a middle man because of that, so this is kind of on the line.

But modern HDDs hold up a lot better than they used to. I tend to “ship of Theseus” PC builds and I’ve got some HDDs probably 15 years old that are still going strong.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve heard anyone say a HDD failed. Just people remembering what it was like 25 years ago. We don’t think of innovation with old tech like HDDs, but there’s been a lot of improvements to the parts that used to fail regularly.

Exos x18 are enterprise drives that came out last than 5 years ago, I can’t imagine they were replaced because they’re all bad, just companies upgrading to newer tech. So should be fine and last you well over a decade.

A lot of the time they’re paid overtime rates by the company and not being paid by the city.

They’re private security but still wear cop uniforms, drive cop cars, and often sit in their cars burning gas we pay for with taxes.

Businesses are fine paying it, because it’s better than paying taxes for real policing and having to wait.

It’s moving to full on privatized policing, gated communities do the same shit rather than pay taxes.

When this stuff happens, it never ends well for anyone, but often eventually results in sociatial progress once the ashes settle.

Cuz cops aren’t here to help people, they’re here to defend the wealthy’s assests…

People have been learning this lesson for decades, it’s just most people never have to interact with police outside a rare traffic ticket.

Yeah, as long as you don’t mind a refresh rate of 5 frames a second…

Imagine how tired he’d be if he was paying attention to the people making millions and millions of dollars selling opioids and other addictive drugs, especially when he finds out about how extended release was pushed thru despite corporations knowing an significant amount of people would metabolize too fast leading to over medication, under medication, and a situation that creates addicts faster than if you were intentionally trying to create addicts.

Or the judge can keep fucking with the victims because he’s too stupid to see what the underlying problem is.

It won’t solve anything, but that’s never stopped old assholes before.

He shot a guy in the face…

What would a vest have done?

Yeah, dude tried to open his own personal Netflix and is surprised it got taken down.

From post history he managed to keep it up for less than a month.

I’m betting by “friends” he meant either online friends he’s never met, or people he wanted to impress.

So they gave zero fucks and handed it out to more people. Like, just the idea that you’re giving it to so many people that you actually buy a domain?

There’s a reason everyone isn’t already doing it already.

McKinsey is the cause of a lot of issues…

It’s all 20 something Ivy Leaguers that corporations pay a lot of money to be told the best path forward is:

Layoffs, cut benefits, give executives bonuses

Of course, they dabble in other shit as well.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKinsey_%26_Company#Controversies

When people complain about how capitalism is fucking shit up, there’s usually some McKinsey employees (again, dumb rich 20 something’s straight out of college) way back at the beginning of the problem telling everyone to do the thing that caused the problems.

They do an absolute dog shit job of helping, unless the only people you care about helping are the wealthiest. McKinsey always comes up with solutions that make the wealthy more money.

The wealthy already know those “solutions” they just need a third party to suggest it so when it hurts everyone else the wealthy can act like even the experts couldn’t see the obvious downside coming.

The entire existence of computers outside the last five years…

Yeah, that’s crazy.

I guess all those $100 deals were used too.

So I guess at least used prices went down?

But I remember years ago a shuckable 12tb for like $120-140 on sale wasnt unusual on buildapcsales.

considering they’re used server parts.

That really should be in the title…

I dunno, I’m one of those people who never stops using a drive until it breaks, and they never really break anymore. Oldest in my current PC is probably 20 year old HDD.

So yeah, these probably are fine and will still last a long time. But for like $20 more you don’t have to worry about losing the data on it.

Edit:

Apparently prices just haven’t changed in half a decade or longer? I knew prices went up for COVID, assumed they went back down at some point.

If it makes you feel better:

Biden did the same thing a couple months ago to every federal agency in America.

At least you don’t have to pretend Doug Ford is the most progressive option anyone is allowed to ask for

Yep, any far right authoritarian government does that shit.

Half the people the nazis killed in concentration camps werent even Jewish. They hated anyone that was “different” by any number of metrics.

Just like Israel’s far right government doesn’t just hate Muslims from Palestine, they hate Christians or any other religion just as much.

Muslims are just the group the least amount of powerful people care about, like how the Jewish people were in that position 80 years ago.

They always start with the population that has the least defense, but they’ll expand their targets as soon as they think they can.

Like old school KKK in America, they hated a lot more than just Black people in their hey day, but as they lost power they stopped going after the other groups and now focus on the ones with the least defenses/support.

It’s important for people to know this shit, because history shows us people keep falling for it.

Not to mention pretty much every Palestinian in Gaza is ethnically Semitic…

Meanwhile Israel doesn’t even report the ethnicity of Israelis. They just label them “Jew” or “Arab” (the use Arab for any religion other than Judaism) and pretend someone that converted yesterday is now Semitic today and entitled to live in Israel. Literally, if you convert you can get Israeli citizenship and you’ll have your ethnicity listed as “Jew” on Israeli documents.

Unless you were born in Gaza or West Bank. In that case even if you convert and marry a Jewish Israeli citizen, you still don’t become an Israeli citizen.

Because their government doesn’t want to acknowledge that religion isnt the same as ethnicity. If they did, they’d lose the entire excuse about it being their land ancestrally.

Theyre not starting from a logical position, so nothing else about it is ever gonna make sense.

Like most far right authoritarian governments, they say whatever helps in the moment and don’t care if there’s any logical consistency.

Because there’s never a negative consequence…

If the process even starts, cops nationwide stop doing their job completely.

Imagine if charging a fireman for arson meant firemen stopped responding to calls.

Or if a single malpractice suit stopped doctors from treating patients.

Cops are essentially a gang, they’ve been acting like it for decades now. The only time a cop will admit another cop did something wrong, is if that first cop was a whistleblower. Anything except speaking out against cops and they all close ranks to protect the “bad apple”.

Biden was telling them to chill out, because he was worried it would lead to less aid for Israel…

He wasn’t trying to call for peace, he was asking for less obvious war crimes.

Without quoting any of his specific comments, Troy says that Biden warned Begin that “eroding support for Israel” might endanger future US aid. Begin seems to have taken this as a threat to cut off aid if Israeli policy didn’t change, and Troy quotes him railing that Israel would “stand by” its “principles . . . with or without your aid.”

Honestly, though, everything we know about the way Senator Biden positioned himself on the issue at the time makes it more likely that he was speaking as a supporter of US aid worried that he and his friends wouldn’t be able to deliver it in the future. But what exactly was his concern?

Now that it’s 40 some years later and he’s a party leader and president (also, 40 fucking years older) I guess he’s not as worried about how Israel’s war crimes might result in less aid to Israel.

It was taken off like a year ago, maybe longer. The last season bombed so they took the whole thing down to avoid paying residuals. Think it was even before the merger.

Which just highlights how stupid the system is. Pay residuals, but pay them based on amount of viewing hours. If no one watches a show, there’s still no reason to remove it.

Currently an expensive show no one watches can just bleed money.

Children don’t “see race”, they go on “in-group” and “out group”.

And if you’re not exposed to people of other races, then that forms along racial lines.

This is why people opposed desegregation of schools/housing, and even shit like Alabama banning Sesame Street because it showed different kids getting along.

You’re working under assumption most homes have people.living in them…

On the bright side, at least their not being called crazy extremists as much as gen x was for pointing this out…

It’s insane we lived through Al Gore and all the boomers from both parties saying he was crazy.

We could have avoided 20 years of war, and started fighting climate change before shit got close to this bad.

Yep.

Say the IPO is 9/1/23. The company wants to do anything they can to juice the numbers for that date, even if it means on 9/2/23 it crashes and burns.

When a company prepares for an IPO, every long-term metric is thrown out the window

The first seasons had the books with everything spelled out.

The end wasn’t (still isn’t) written. So the show runners were told who gets the iron throne at the end, but not how/why. Also a few other ending points.

So in the show, there’s no good reason for what happens at the end. D&D just had shit happen rather than try and show why people would do that shit
