Decided I should watch the older John Wick movies to get back on track for the 4th one.

Basically almost all 4k/2160p releases also seem to include HDR which means the content tonemapping/colors/contrast looks rather off on my 400 nit screen that “technically” supports HDR (not to mention I’m using Linux, where HDR support is nonexistent)

Can I somehow un-HDRfy these releases or should I be looking somewhere else? Some 1080p versions are non-hdr which look significantly better aside from the resolution.

Weird. I use MPV.NET and don’t have the issue. I download all my 4K content in HDR (streaming to TV and it works fine) and when I play it on the PC it looks fine too in SDR.

Have you tried not loading a config at all?

Seems like MPV was doing some sort of tonemapping after all, since the rest of the movie looks mostly fine. Though it definitely does not look as the other one does, presumably due to that one being manually tonemapped with some other conversion.
