Hey there, this is my first post on any lemmy instance so apologies if I do anything wrong (no I’m actually not a redditor, through yeah I did see a link to this instance on r/piracy and decided to take the plunge)
I’m looking for the best way to track down the films listed on this website: https://othernessarchive.com/ It calls itself an archive but it’s really just a list.
As an example: https://othernessarchive.com/archive/transexual-menace There’s a link to rent but that’s it. Many films listed don’t have anything at all, maybe a trailer link on YouTube. Is there maybe a known torrent out there that has these films or at least some of them floating around?
I bought Rūrangi on DVD earlier this year (which is also on this site) just so I could have the physical medium but I don’t have a region unlocked disk burner. Far as I’m aware there’s no season 2 DVD out there either. The DVD is nice because it keeps the first season as the full length film it was intended to be (Hulu chops them up into 5 separate 20ish min episode seasons with a shitload of ads sprinkled in) and I just want to own the films and share them with my loved ones without the bullshit… and obviously I want to explore a lot of these other films too.

btdig and knaben are both torrent search engines, and the Internet Archive is another good place to search for hard to find videos. None of them turned up Transexual Menace, but they did find Rurangi.
Re:Transexual Meanace- It sucks because the only website I saw that had the film available wanted several hundred dollars (I think it was a university library? I’ll have to dig for it again because I lost those tabs) and it’s not like it’s even the people who made it or anything. You have to go to exclusive screenings for it and I think it’s ridiculous, especially for an older historical film.
Thank you for the suggestions though, I’ll see what I can find.
Tracking down all of these would be quite an undertaking. If you can find someone on PTP, KG, and CG that would probably speed. Some stuff might exist on DDL somewhere as well.
While I know how to use torrenting software (and linux) I’ve never really figured out the ins and outs of actually finding stuff between all the different search engines, trackers, etc. I worry I’m the wrong person to do it, but I feel strongly about making many of these films available.
VLC is usually pretty good with ignoring all dvd region coding, same for makemkv. You could try using one of those to get around the region lock of your drive, if you have not done that yet.
I haven’t been able to make it work. I tried installing extra packages and following different guides but I think the drive I have just doesn’t feel like cooperating.
