Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton has broken her silence following her husband's impeachment but did not outright say whether she will recuse herself from voting in his upcoming trial. Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is expected to stand trial in the Texas Senate no later than August. Angela Paxton said Monday in a statement that she will “carry out my duties” but didn't say to what extend she would participate. Whether Angela Paxton will cast a vote with her husband’s job on the line has raised ethical questions over the looming trial in the Senate. Ken Paxton is temporarily suspended from office pending the trial's outcome.

A spokesperson did not immediately respond Monday night when asked whether she intends to vote.

The statement was released on the eve of when rules surrounding the trial are expected to be finalized Tuesday by the Texas Senate. There are 31 senators in the chamber, which is led by Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has declined to comment on Sen. Paxton’s potential participation in the trial.

What a thinly veiled way to insinuate that she won’t participate in good faith, given that good faith participation intrinsically means recusal.

“Carry out her duties” to continue the corruption in the Texas state government. He’s the one that got her elected, no way she doesn’t vote to acquit.

The question is: her duties to whom? To the people who elected her, or to her husband? I’m sure I don’t need to ask the question. Texas Republicans seem to be particularly cynical and corrupt, even by the debased standards of the modern Republican Party.
