jackett (by the way thanks to those suggesting it here!) lists hundreds of indexers… but how to choose which ones to focus on? Is there an updated repository with some stats and indexing by category, popularity and easiness of access, or forums with reviews? Some basic google searches provide SEO optimized pages listing some of the most popular ones but was wondering whether there was some “insider” “awesome-torrent” repo with this kind of info, thanks!

I primarily rely on nyaa (anime) and 1337x (general) as public.
Other then them: TL (easy to get into) and a few others.

My advice: Try to get into private ones.

https://www.invitehawk.com/ and http://torrentinvites.org/forum.php will probably list a few options.

To get into private trackers start with the beginner ones (those are your step stone to get to more “elite” trackers) that may be listed here:

Trackers usually open during holidays like x-mas, black friday, eastern, summer or because of specific events like another tracker going down.

Are private trackers really that necessary if you jusr pirate a movie, series, and maybe a game every now and then? A lot of them seem to be a bit of a hassle or require payment to get into when the good ol’ pirating sites do none of that.

If you find everything elsewhere and are happy with the speeds then probably not. Ever not find anything? Then you may want to look into it

If it’s not on open platforms why would a private tracker have it?

Because they encourage seeding. People get rewarded for uploading & longterm seeding. None of that on public.

Fair enough. Thanks

  • “Are they worth the effort”
    • Depends on your need for quality. Some get reposted from private trackers.
    • Out of 10 downloads how often do you search for a good quality 1080p/4K? If the answer is yes, I’d recommend TL. If it is more look around for a bit more prestige ones like Blutopia.
  • “A lot of them seem to be a bit of a hassle”
    • Usually login in a time frame of 30 days (read the rules. Depends on the site)
  • “or require payment”
    • Don’t even bother. Usually trackers will ask for a donation to offset the server/hosting/admin costs and/or give perks for donating.

Thanks!

And never pay for an invite.

Donation signups are cool though.

torrents-csv.ml is excellent. It’s a compiled database of other torrent sites that is pruned of unseeded torrents. It usually has what I need except for new releases, as they aren’t added immediately.

Side note: Jackett is nice but Prowlarr is better. Jackett development has stopped. Prowlarr is a little bit more feature rich and can automatically add indexers to Sonarr and Radarr.

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! On the side note, why do you say Jackett dev has stopped? The last release on github is 16h ago. Also, I am still a bit old fashioned here, and haven’t entered the *rr world yet!

Ah, maybe it’s started up again.

I prefer Prowlarr because the UI is just like Sonarr and Radarr and it can synchronize your indexers to Sonarr and Radarr

I do like Prowlarr for management of indexers across the *arr apps, but for some reason I prefer the Jackett search much more. I think part of it is the sub-search within the results, or something else about the UI.
