If you feel it’s time for a change of scene, here’s something to consider: starting in 2024, young Canadian adults can live and work in Iceland for a year.

Damn, I’m too old…
I opened the thread because I thought “dang, I bet visiting Iceland would be neat,” and find out I missed the age gap by a matter of months
I didn’t realize being too old would happen so early
You should still visit anyway, if you can!
Bah. I’m long out of the running, and also neither photogenic nor of Candidate Material.
I’ll stick to tourism. Next year it may be a caravan trip around the outside.
I did a campervan trip in 2019. It was fantastic. I’d highly recommend.
IIRC, Americans under 30 can do this in Australia too.
Canadians can already do this in Commonwealth countries as they are part of the Commonwealth
I’ve never been aware of a way to do this.
And now I’m old. Shower me with pity, and maybe a little knowledge?
It’s a bogus claim. the Commonwealth does NOT have a system of free movement or labour. The claim is likely rooted in antiquated monarchist talking points.
The 34 available programs are available in the IEC website here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadians/international-experience-canada.html
This is a smaller number than the 56 commonwealth nations, and includes non-commonwealth nations. For example, India, Pakistan, and South Africa have no IEC program.
Only 120 applicants from each side will be accepted.
For Iceland specifically, though for other nations this program is already in place. About 240,000 canadians have done this so far, going to 38 different countries which is impressive. This expansion will grow if both nations see value too, next year it might be 240.
So yeah, the headlines a bit misleading, but it’s brought to attention a pretty cool program
