Nobody remembers that war and there is certainly nobody around who can claim to have participated in it and “helped” one side or the other. Also, Canada did not yet exist as a country at that point; the citizens of lower Canada were simply francophone citizens of the British Empire.
The animosity between Anglo and Franco Canadians mostly is the result of economic and political discrimination during the 20th century which led to many French Canadians feeling like second-class citizens. Most of those problems have been resolved at a legal and systemic level now, but the economic and political impact is still felt in much of Canada.
