  1. download new torrents with the freeleech tag
  2. seed the freeleech torrents for a little while
  3. download an ebook or something that isn’t freeleech

yes quite. this happens to me every time I join a new tracker.

The screenshot is showing the ratio on a single torrent, not a tracker. The only time you’ll see that is usually if you are the person that submitted the torrent.

Yessir, and frankly I’m caring a lot more for the torrents that are barely breathing on public trackers, its made me a little sad seeing how inaccessible some content can tend to get, but to be fair I haven’t sailed the deep end with private trackers or anything yet

@Damage@feddit.it

Unfortunately with public trackers you’re mostly helping leechers and debrid users who don’t contribute back anything at all

And lets be honest, a lot of us were once in the boat of at least not being able to seed back. With the content I seed I see it more as a preservation service…

Family and friends requesting even couple years old shows that just arent available in this region or what be it like come on, its the digital age, I can message someone halfway around the world but I can’t watch some movie because someone wants the most nickel and dime. /rant

I don’t expect any of them to know what bittorrent is, if it brings them joy when there may be no other option, that is what this is for afterall

Sir, are you the Pirate Bay? I feel like you’re single-handedly keeping a tracker alive.

What’s your upload amount? Ratio isn’t vs the total size of the torrent, so this can happen if you remove a readd a torrent to the client for a file that’s already in the hard drive. Say you download 1kb of a 1gb file, but then upload 10mb you can get some insane ratios.

Most unfortunately overall statistics aren’t exported, the VM had been sitting active on a PC for a while before I turned it off for a few months and wiped it recently

I can say those top ratios were movies I had first acquired, and never had set a seed limit so I’m certain I’ve been seeding the entire file

I can’t get over 0.00 most of the time because no one’s leeching 😭

I build ratio on private trackers by getting as much freeleech stuff as I can, even though I might not be into it. Timing is key also, I’ll snatch anything I think will blow up. If you get in early you can get lots of upload. This worked great to get my initial ratio built up on what.cd and redacted.

A private tracker I use actually bases their ratios off the time you seed something for rather than the amount you seed. I use a seedbox, which means people are able to leech from me pretty much 100% of the time. Most of the stuff I’ve seeded so far is freeleech. Those three factors combined have given me about +10.0 on my ratio over the course of maybe a week. (I just recently joined it.)

That’s pretty interesting. I wish more trackers did it like this.

I don’t sweat it. My connection is crap anyway. I’d rather somebody have a drive full of rare treasure that barely gets asked for than be one of a thousand seeding the latest Marvel rubbish.

I have one tracker I am twice as long active with versus another one and I almst catched up the uploaded data with less torrents active. Sometimes I wonder if I am just not the primary target for that tracker or I just don’t like the popular stuff.

I would imagine, and namely the reason I raise the sails again, content thats being migrated across different subscriptions will become a real hot token item

Download a popular movie and keep your computer on for a while 🤷‍♂️

Although, seeding stuff that isn’t popular is also important. I don’t know what you’re seeding but if no one is leeching maybe there aren’t a whole lot of other people seeding either. When someone does leech, they might be very happy that you’re there keeping that one torrent alive.

I have a Raspberry Pi with the *arr stuff and Jellyfin that’s seeding 24/7. I tried looking for popular stuff on the private trackers I’m on but they always have so many seeders in comparison to leechers that I don’t know if it would actually help or worsen my ratio.

I was suddenly nostalgic for MythBusters again, and in my acquisition I found a couple seasons that have pretty low seeders. Will gladly be a forever seeder even if one person a year leaches

There’s a fanedit out there of the complete series Mythbusters with all of the flashbacks and filler removed. No more 5-minute long “before the break” segments.

Do you know the name of the fanedit? I’d like to check it out

@Damage@feddit.it

Yes you can, it can either monitor RSS feeds exclusively, or also, for supported trackers, place a bot on their announce channel and instantly know when a new release is announced.

With that information it can do multiple things, feed it to *arrs which then decide if they want it, send it straight to your torrent client, with various filters, etc.

Well done.

I generally drop torrents out of seeding if there are >100 seeders so I have nothing as high as your top 10

When I was able to seed relentlessly, I aimed for 3.0. Typically, popular things got into the tens or twenties, while rare stuff would get lucky to cross the 1.0 threshold.

Thieves and beggars, never shall we die and all that.

When I downloaded The Last Of Us it would shoot to 4-5 and get stuck there. Meanwhile, I downloaded Madagascar on a random Monday and a week or so later that thing is at 36.0.

It’s totally random.
