To be honest, I just love reusing old stuff and giving it new meaning ☺️. And fixing stuff too. Sure, they will eventually be worthless, but I try and extend their life as much as possible ☺️.
Regarding the movies thing, each to his own 🤷 😉. I don’t judge. Hell, even I sonetimes download 1080p and watch that on my TV, but it’s mostly a special case scenario, like some good movie I’ve wanted to watch for a long time, but never got around to it, or something like.
Meeh, doesn’t really bother me 🤷. I usually just use the default settings in whatever DE in Linux (I usually use xfce, but I’ve switched when I felt like it, if I’m getting bored and wanna try something new 😂), or change a few font sizes here and there and all is good 🤷. Regarding Windows (I dual boot), I don’t really care that much to be honest, I rarely use it the past few years. I only use it for work and only when I have to do some things from home or when I need to use some obscure piece of software that just doesn’t work in Wine.
So… no, I don’t really see a reason to buy a bigger monitor. Actually, I haven’t bought a monitor for ages, like probably 20 years 😂, all of the ones I currently use are salvaged from one person or another - they wanna trade up, they give me their old monitor 😂. I don’t complain, they’re still usable for me 🤷.
I’ve heard the audio and read the manuscript. That never sounded like a like a joke to me. He was trying to sell/quiet the app for real, was just testing if they’re willing to do this.
I would try to make $$$ out of it too, since I can see the direction in which this is going, so there’s no Ill feelings there, but IMO, Christian lied, not spez. He wasn’t direct, he was circling around with th expalanation, not being direct at all “bob’s your uncle” 🤨, I mean WTF is that supposed to mean. Nothing was pointed out directly, it was all like “ha ha, I’m only kidding”, but the fact is, if spaz said “when and where”, we wouldn’t be having this converstaion right now.
Meeh, I don’t really care one way or another. As long as the info gets out and to the people, I don’t care much how it got out.
But, I’m a pirate since birth. I haven’t paid for anything digital in my entire life (well… CDs, yes, but only because I respect the bands and just wanted to have the originals, cuz I’m also a collector, and that was years after I alredy had pirated copies), so I’m used to finding my way around this digital playground and getting the info/data I need. This being said, I’m not really on one side or another, but I just love fucking with rich people, lol. So I decided, fuck it, let’s give this thing a try. Turns out it’s a lot better than I thought. Plus, quieter than reddit, not so much noise… which I kinda like to be honest, so… yeah, I’m sticking here. I do have my reddit accounts still active as well, but only because I need them, got some posts shared on the profiles which I would hate to get deleted. So yeah, I’ll be here mostly, but also on reddit from time to time.
Depends where you live, regarding the VPN I mean. I’ve never used a VPN in my life, but, than again, I live in 3rd world country (kinda…). It’s a P2P protocol, so if you block P2P on your firewall, yeah, in most cases, Soulseek gets blocked as well.
Regarding the download speed, they have like maybe 100, 200 users that carry most of the load, so they have to limit traffic per peer 🤷.
You have to define a shared folder/folders, that’s how you share. So, share your music library and off you go. Sooner or later, you’ll show up in search results and people will start downloading from you.
Have you tried Soulseek? They have users that have some HQ MP3s, as well as FLACs and other lossless formats. Sometimes you have to like get them to add you to their private share list, but it’s not that hard. You just ask which album/tracks you need, they’ll either make them publically available or add you to their private share list. They’re not hard asses or anything like that (some might be, but I haven’t run into users like that).
Also, rutracker.org and/or rutracker.ru, they both have a pretty good record of keeping up with releases, especially undergorund stuff (metal, EDM, IDM, etc.).
Don’t know the condition in which DC++ is nowadays, used to be pretty popular for sharing music. Mostly HQ MP3s, but some users also had a lot of lossless music. Worth a shot as well IMO. Signing up for servers can be a PITA though (or at least it used to be).
No hardware supports it out of the box (standalone players), thus, it’s not gonna happen for pirated content.
Plus, AV1 was nowhere near ready when x265 was in v2.x. It was open source, it had x in front of it (the logical successor to x264… name wise at least), it conformed fo the MPEG HEVC standard (in most things)… what was there not to like 🤷. Pirates don’t care about things like “but I have to pay royalties to use it in a commercial environment”… hence, why they’re pirates.
