You could spend 100m in a day on real estate where I live. There are multiple 40-50m parcels available all over the place.

If you save money for retirement you’re ideally selling gains off of that money. Like you have 500k invested in something safe like bonds, it’s making maybe 5% a year, so you live off of that 5% in early retirement and a bit more than that in late retirement. Then you have money leftover when you die, so your heirs can have it.

Thanks for the info, that makes perfect sense. Seems like a good idea to tax people making tons and tons of money at a high rate then!

USA neighbor here,

66% is insane, like if I saved up $500k to retire, I’d like to be selling some every year, like 5% (actually a little more but this is for easy numbers). That would get me $25,000 per year, then I’d pay capital gains tax on that and have about $20k left over. A modest retirement, could move to somewhere inexpensive and retire on that.

A 60% capital gains tax means I would have to save 1.5 million dollars to achieve that same retirement.

I hear you, but I disagree. My people are great at slacking me or each other when they need stuff. We have a great collaborative atmosphere. They set up meetings with each other and with me as needed, and I’ve heard over and over that they really like that. I have weekly 1:1 meetings with each of them, and usually we hang up after 15 minutes because they know what they’re doing and can get back to it.

Imagine actually going to daily standup, wow

I made a daily meeting invite, and told my team to never show up to it. Lets them show up to work an hour later since I put it in the calendar for 930-10.

Boycotts don’t work against Walmart because many folks (their core demographic) have no choice but to shop there.

Meaningful legislation and regulation is the way forward.

How come people use sql instead of just using text files? I just use text files for everything

I do, exclusively

Getting rid of caffeine (decaf still has a little) has been amazing for me.

Electric cars sound great, it just sucks that they are all luxury vehicles right now. Like there’s no $3000 used electric car out there for regular people to buy. Hell there isn’t even a new $20k electric car.

Most people won’t do mass transit because they’ve been socialized to see it as gross. And it is gross. In my town there are always crazy people riding the bus harassing the driver because they are lonely, and the bus smells like pee. And the bus never gets you there faster than a car, so why ever ride it.

If I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t have a job

Gotta leave unfinished tasks and make frivolous jira issues so it looks like there’s a reason to keep paying me to do 2 hours of work a week

Let’s say I’m a carpenter, and occasionally I open up a cad program and draw up a wrench or lathe chuck and have it cut out of sheet steel. Yes, I did some engineering but I’m not really an engineer.

Likewise let’s say I’m an artist. Maybe I write code now and then to program my automatic paint mixer or whatever.

Code to build something: engineer

Code to use something: programmer

Management should not exist

No software project should have more than 3 contributors

GUIs should not exist either

The internet was a mistake as well

I don’t do web dev, I write math software that makes very rich people richer. But I often hear of this centering and layout crap

Why doesn’t html just have hcenter and vcenter tags or something? Why is centering so hard?

Don’t get mad at me I’m just explaining it

That’s the joke

It’s implying js isn’t a programming language because web stuff isn’t real programming
