Is it possible to still comment at Torrent Freak? I’m not seeing any comments across browsers, and I would assume speculation and rumours would have otherwise been rife.

I don’t know what that is, but it’s not torrent galaxy - same interface but over a week old

The index manager appears to be for Windows only (I’m on a Mac). What is the benefit of that for torrenters anyway? A google search seems to throw up all different kinds of index managers.

‘Torrent galaxy is offline. Updates will be posted if there are any changes’.
Sounds ominous. Where to now? Edit: The claim is that they're offline for maintenance - not sure how credible the source is though or why it was worded to intimate otherwise. https://new.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/1dfpetp/have_no_fear_tgx_is_here_it_to_stay/

Free Pitch Deck App (off topic)?
Can someone please recommend a free pitch deck app or refer us to an easy to use guide? I need to do a pitch and was told to use a deck. thanks

Best Audio Quality for Rips? (includes a shout-out to Media Human).
If someone were to try and download a song from (say) Youtube, Spotify or Soundcloud which site would provide the best audio version? Sometimes the songs I seek aren't available via the usual places (like soulseek, electronic fresh or dj soundstop ) and I have to opt for a less desirable choice. I'm currently using Media Human's incredibly versatile Youtube to MP3 ripper (it also rips songs off Soundcloud, Spotify, Vimeo, Bandcamp, Mixcloud etc) and is highly recommended. https://www.mediahuman.com/youtube-to-mp3/31/ The sound quality of its rips are great (I usually only play these rips in the car or on my mac so I'm not sure I'd notice any degradation in sound quality). This Afrobeat rip, for example, sounds fantastic when turned up and becomes a full on electronic song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEJ_m2HPXv8 Nonetheless, I still have a nagging feeling I might not always be taking from the best possible source. So anyone know which service has the best audio encode in the first place? thanks

It skips through songs every song half way through.

I downloaded a flac version of the album and converted it to m4a - works fine now. Weird.

Apple Music only playing half of ‘downloaded’ songs? Is this an Anti-Piracy measure?
Apple's Music app (formerly itunes) is only playing half of the tracks of a recently downloaded album. It then inexplicably skips to (or through) the next songs similarly. Is it possible this is an anti-piracy measure? Interestingly, the labelled source appears to be 'web' so I'm wondering if the app somehow detects that it's an illicit source. The problem does not occur in VLC or with other downloaded albums (although I recall something similar happening with Itunes many years ago on a different computer and/or OS so I can only assume the problem is not me and the actual file or app).

It’s not my Reddit post though - just the result of a google search to see if anyone else was experiencing the same issue for no apparent reason.

“We suspect automated behaviour on your account”
Whenever I visit Facebook now, I get the following message or suspension warning (note the link is from someone else's instagram account posted on reddit and I only link to it because it's the complete warning at a glance) https://www.reddit.com/r/Instagram/comments/18bsjib/we_suspect_automated_behaviour_on_your_account/ I have no idea what they're talking about or why I'm suddenly getting the message. I originally assumed it was related to my VPN but apparently not. Anybody else suddenly getting this warning or know what might be going on?

Anyone getting weird 'bouncing around ’ on torrentgalaxy?
The images on the left don't seem to be loading and all I'm seeing weird 'bouncing' or glitching that sometimes extends to the torrents in the middle of the page too. It's been like that for hours on my end.

Thanks for the all your responses guys - it was most appreciated.

I found a surprisingly simple solution - Quickplayer! (believe it or not)

thanks, I tried using Audacity but I got an ‘incompatible plugin’ error message.

Can you please recommend an easy to use music trimmer?
I ripped a mixcloud stream using a great free MediaHuman app (Youtube to Mp3). I now need to rip the desired 6 minute song (in m4a format) from a 2 hour stream. The trouble is: I can't seem to find a decent app to do it. I tried using a couple of online apps but the file was too large to upload, and I can't seem to find a decent app to use for my iMac anymore. Do you know of an easy-to-use and/or free music trimmer/cutter app? thanks

Soulseek is great secondary source but often a little slow to get the latest releases - users appear to source their new music from elsewhere (like DJ Sound Top or Electronic Fresh). I was hoping that there might be other primary sources.

Electronic Music: best sites to source latest releases?
Is anybody here also interested in electronic (techno, house, jungle, etc) dance music? The kind of stuff that is usually - and often exclusively - sold on the likes of Beatport or Juno. If so, do you know where we can source the latest releases? thanks

Has anybody seen any of The Creator rips?
I've only seen screen shots so far, but something looks very amiss about all these rips (irrespective of the file size) This is supposed to be an epic sci-fi blockbuster, but all the posted images appear to look very 'cropped' and/or low res. Is the film supposed to look like it only takes up half of the available screen?

thanks for taking the time out to clarify this for me.

Unfortunately, I’m too stupid to make sense of how to use yt-dlp

thanks very much for that.

I don’t see the required yt-dlp app (or whatever) for the iMac and the above just appears to be a link that I can’t use.

Can you please clarify what I might need to do to install/download yt-dlp?

Is there any way we can rip a track from (or out of) a larger mixcloud stream?
I frequently listen to electronic music programs that typically play tracks that musical identifiers (like Shazam or AHA) fail to recognise. The DJ is also not a great help because they'll back announce multiple tracks that are also hard to recognise or pinpoint. My main concern, though, is that I'll often hear a track that I'm not likely to hear again or may forget by the time it's officially available and/or recognisable. So my question is: is it possible to rip a single track from a long stream for future reference (so Shazam will eventually recognise it or we can play it at our own leisure)? I really like a techno track from the following stream: https://www.mixcloud.com/KissFM/the-beautiful-drive-09-nov-2023/ It starts playing at the 13 minute and 46 second mark and was hoping to be able to isolate it (if possible). I was also hoping to be able to isolate any other tracks I might encounter in any other streams heard online (when failing to recognise it). Alternatively, if you can make sense of what the DJ says around the 36 minute mark I'd really appreciate the clarification :) ! thanks

Is it possible to rip audio from youtube without loss of quality or online conversions?
I read somewhere that it is possible to rip youtube videos (music only) without the need for converting it into an mp3 as such. The online conversion process (naturally) results in loss of quality, and (apparently) it is possible to preserve the original video's audio quality via a *direct* rip. If so, how would it be done and what format would it be in anyway? thanks

Transmission used to be my preferred app hands down but recent updates have negatively impacted its performance on my end. If all it needs to do is download torrents, why does it now sometimes seem incapable of connecting to a given (popular) swarm ?

Particularly unfortunate is that once it does connect, the download speed has now become arbitrary: it keeps alternating between ‘incredibly fast’ and ‘surprisingly slow’ and takes three or four times as long to complete. I’ve become so exasperated with it that I’ve been forced to move on (deluge instantly connects and consistently downloads at five times the speed).

I really like biglybt, but why is it so… slow to add torrents or shut itself down? It seems as if the app does so many different things simultaneously that it doesn’t do them seamlessly or instantaneously. I mean, why does it need ‘up to twenty seconds’ to close after you’ve downloaded something? Is it bloat? Is there a way to streamline its running?

I want to use qbittorrent, but my Mac won’t let me install it - says it’s too old for the operating system and/or that it can’t be verified.

I’ve just installed bigly bt, and I have three questions: 1) is it possible to set the seeding ratio 2) do we really need to confirm the deletion of every torrent via the pop up? (I have RSI, and the less popups or clicking the better) and 3) why does searching for a torrent via the internal search engine result in a captula.?

Thanks, that appears to be the right app or plugin, but Mac won’t let me install it (too old for my current OS and/or can’t verify if its safe). Thanks, though.

Thanks for the quick reply, but that doesn’t work for me (there is no popup on my end).

Does anybody here use Deluge? How do you get magnet links to work?
I'm currently on the Imac using Deluge as my preferred client - it just seems so much faster than (say) Transmission, which has recently been struggling to connect to other pirates on the high seas. The only problem is: Deluge appears to have issues with magnet links. Although the client *will* open when you click a magnet, the link doesn't automatically get added to the downloads. So you have to manually enter each magnet link. Is there anyway around this? I'd appreciate detailed instructions if possible (or a link to a video and/or article explaining what to do). thanks

Does torrenting slow down your computer?
I'm curious to know if anybody else finds their computer behaving sluggishly or erratically when downloading torrents. For the record: I use transmission on a 2020 imac and have tried other clients to little avial. A virus and/or activity check doesn't reveal anything untoward going on in the background. I'm not sure what's going on, but torrenting is either resource intensive (possibly RAM) or writing to the harddrive results in poor performance overall. Or maybe its something else (like my vpn draining resources)? Either way, when I torrent I might as well walk away from my computer because that's all it seems it wants to do, and even then its performance remains erratic.

Anyone know what’s going on with ShadowBG?
I'm not sure if it's common knowledge, but a 'shadow' RARBG search engine went up when the site went down. https://shadowbg-test.xav1erenc.workers.dev/ As far as I could tell, it provided direct access to all of its original torrents and/or continually seeded torrents by other dedicated seeders (or sites). But the search engine has suddenly become inaccessible. Anyone know why? Is there an alternative? thanks
