Lack of any information about the credentials of this CTO feels incredibly misleading. If this was a CTO of a decent sized organization known for a healthy developer dynamic, I’d have assumed that would have been stated… as any sized company from 1 to 100,000+ can have a CTO. You can file a LLC right now and become a CTO.

Bluntly, a lot of projects just aren’t high profile or important enough to get recognition regardless of skill, and I think this comes down to luck. I’ve known some very smart people who were put on menial work and didn’t advance. I’ve known some average people on very visible projects get rewarded more.

I think it’s better to work towards highly visible projects with a good chance of success than trying to gloat about work.

There’s a few things here I’m a bit… eh on:

1. If the UNLOGGED tables are unavailable on replicas, you’re now putting read loads back on your primary which sounds like it defeats the point of having replicas to begin with?
2. The last claim: “…[with] better persistence than traditional caching services…” seems like a weird claim to make if these tables get truncated on DB crashes. Redis with AOT seems far more robust.

As frustrating as it is, it is a gaming community. I’d be mortified if it were a cybersecurity or experienced developer community.

• Not all US devs are making 200-400k/yr.
• There is a very loud cohort of devs who will roll their 4 (or whatever) years of stock options/RSUs into what they present as their annual salary number, greatly inflating it.
• Typically the higher paying jobs are in very high cost of living areas
