If anyone has invites to a decent tracker, hmu.

Just shamelessly begging, I haven’t been on a private tracker in over a decade but I should probably step up my game again with the way that streaming services are headed.

My previous experience was that I was completely incapable of maintaining a decent seed ratio on my home connection. I felt that many users were using seedboxes with really high upload speeds and hogging all the seeding. But I still felt it was quite a valuable community because, as people have already mentioned, the organization and quality of the torrents is infinitely better. So I basically used it sparingly for stuff that was hard to find. They also had a bunch of free-leech torrents that didn’t affect your ratio, which was a really nice feature. Honestly can’t remember the name of the site though.

I like communities and sublemmies.

Coms/commus sounds forced and unnecessary, doubt it’ll catch on.

As for Lemmies, I think that should be a synonym for instances/servers. So, for example, the biggest Lemmy with the most sublemmies would be lemmy.world.

And of course, the users are lemmings.

Yeah it’s satire, McAfee has been a joke for a long ass time.

Tails is legit though, good recommendation in general

Damn bro. Opsec 💯

I’m standing here with my dick out while you’re hiding in full camo in the bushes

Exactly. I’d rather take the unhinged rants and malware than the destruction of the planet and perversion of human society, thank you very much

I’m just saying getting stuff from Empress is no worse than getting it from a corporation. She’s going to be equally crazy whether you download her cracks or not, at least she’s not exploiting child labor or destroying the environment in the process.

I feel you, but I also have a feeling this will be blasphemy to some.

Might as well download the episode in GIF format at that point, right guys? 😅

I think the phrase you were looking for was “everyone and their mothers” 😅

I never stopped 😂.

But in all seriousness I’m still languishing on janky old school public trackers too, commenting here to help me remember to read through these suggestions at a later date.

Yeah there’s a big difference between spreading the word on an individual basis and broadcasting something on a national media outlet. The latter is just obnoxious and directly harmful to the community. Good on you for calling it out.

Yeah, that type of person is a large part of the reason reddit turned to shit. The relative difficulty of accessing this platform has been a great filter for casuals and clout chasers.

Aren’t all search engines kinda shit compared to 10 years ago?

I think it’s because malicious actors have gotten more sophisticated at influencing the search results and also Google stopped giving a shit. If there’s something out there that can give me 2010 Google level results, hook me up.

But I have been feeling like search engines are going extinct for a while. When the majority of content on the internet was real, search engines were useful. Now that the majority of content is fake and/or monetized, it becomes increasingly difficult for search engines to return helpful results. No matter how well optimized the algorithm, it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Yeah I think reddit is a behemoth that has subsumed many of the earlier, more separate internet forums and communities.

I am hoping that the fediverse can reverse that trend and re-decentralize(!) the internet. The decentralized model is better for users (and humanity as a whole) after all, and reddit will continue to shoot itself in the foot by being greedy.

They generally dislike corporations, dislike being told what they can or cannot do, and have more technical expertise than the average person. They are extremely accustomed to finding and migrating to new platforms.
