This is just what is visible to users/customers which is just top of the iceberg.

Real use of AI is in every industry and best use case is for jobs that were imposible before.

AI has been paying of for decades, it is used in all industries for appropriate tasks.

Now it is even better we are doing stuff no one thought it could be possible and advancing our work.

Perfect use case is for things that are simple to do but take too much time to be economical for humans (ex. counting products, plants, trees, cars, disease detection…) and using additional data to make better decisions.

Generative AI (for writing text, coding,… ) is of course no where close to being useful, but it can interesting to try. It is just a toy, expensive one, but still a toy.

This thread reminds me of stackoverflow, most people are just convincing you in something else and it is obvious they have never been in your (and mine) situation.

Just answer question if you have some idea, yes we know python exist, that’s nice, but not an answer to this question.

I can not watch the video now but I have read description.

Thing is I see them more as entertainers than IT professionals, so I don’t expect any valid data from them. If not before, it became obvious with the whole Linux for a month fiasco where he complains that it’s Linux’s falult he deleted important packages.

But I get it, youtube is forcing this dramatic, often, high performing videos on all creators. You can see it explained very often by various youtubers.

Of course they care more about quantity, because Algorithm will punish them for not publishing and they will disappear.

No one living from youtube can not be trusted right now, they are all forced to publish often clickbity dramatic videos.

I was working in fast food for a long time, it was more than enough for me, thank you.

But looks like good job to automate, let people do something better.

I am buying vegetables and healthy stuff with card. Alcohol and sweets only cache.

  1. their jobs will evaporate if people don’t use them

I was thinking the same until couple of them screamed at me for not using self checkout. And most of them are not happy with their job. Or life, I am not sure.

Sometimes the cashiers themselves are slow and scan items like they’re regretting every life decision they ever made.

Such a good description of my local cashiers’

You don’t really understand humans, do you? Or you don’t want to accept what being human is?

I understand it a bit differently. In sentence “I don’t feel like paying” can be hidden different things and most probably a combination of few.

Maybe “i am ashamed I can not afford it” or " not sure if friend can afford it rigth now" or just plain old 'if we really like it we might find money for it, but are not sure we like it enough and that amount of money is serious expense for both of us".

And subset of C++ they are using is easily understandable, just take a look at some easier part.

I think trchnical solution is not s problem, if we decide what needs to be applied we can do it.

If kid finds grandmother’s id - it is simple enough, punish grandma for providing her id, it will teach adult to be responsible. Additionally, not all kids will be able to do it. I doubt they will follow us.

My opinion, eve if it is obvious, parents are responsible Punish them for not protecting their kids.

I was with you until “TikTok and most other corporate social media”. It is all other" parts of internet that are not allowed for 13 year olds.

I don’t even know how to answer questions.

I lost my old account and now I don’t have points on new account and I can not do anything. I can not vote, I can not comment, I can not answer questions. So I just dropped it. I can not even thank (by liking or upvoting) a person whose answer helped me.

I believe others have similar experience.

If they have access to some library with those books they are ok.

I doubt they just used pirated book to train their AI and than publishing it without having non pirated paper trail, it is not that hard.

But let’s see.

The only a problem here is how have they accessed the books, they don’t share copyrighted material to others. But I don’t think anyone should be held guilty for reading a book, so I hold the same stance for AI.

If you don’t want people to read your book, just don’t publish it.

Fastest and most maintainable code is one that does not exists.

Best one after that is it short and simple one.

I am not certain on scenarios you were mentioning above, but I do agree that separating software to instance plus hub/proxym/mssage queue could help with handling load.

How can we scale our big i instances? I don’t know maybe it is easy to put instance on multiple servers, but sounds to me they are just buying bigger one, and that will fill up fast of growth continues to happen.

I would like to hear from developers what they think, but thank you for starting conversation about scaling.

They permanently blocked me for sharing lemmy links before blackout. One more reason to do it, link aggregator not allowing links!
