'The chickens are coming home to roost' after $26-billion acquisition of Shaw by Rogers received final approval earlier this year. In July, the CRTC set the “mobile virtual network operator” (MVNO) rates Quebecor will pay Rogers to use Rogers’ cellular network. The regulator chose Quebecor’s rate in final-offer arbitration. With the rates set, Quebecor was expected to start offering cellphone service in more areas across the country. Rogers is now fighting those rates, having filed an appeal of the CRTC’s decision in the Federal Court of Appeal on Aug. 23. Rogers had assured both the government and Quebecor the rate the CRTC set in arbitration “would be binding and final. It would set the rate once and for all.” “Now that the transaction has taken place and the necessary approvals have been obtained, Rogers is patently acting in bad faith by refusing to accept the decision,”

Apple has reportedly started the production of its next-generation iPhone 15 in Tamil Nadu, India, reports Bloomberg.
The Foxconn factory located in Sriperumbudur is gearing up to roll out the latest iPhone 15 models. iPhone 15 production in India depends on the stock of imported components and the ramp-up of production lines at the Foxconn plant near Chennai. Other Apple suppliers in India, such as Pegatron and a Wistron facility soon to be acquired by the Tata Group, are also expected to join the iPhone 15 production machine.

Wash your imported produce to avoid cyclospora infection amid spike, says BCCDC
"Cyclospora infection can occur due to eating contaminated, imported raw produce, especially leafy greens, fresh herbs and berries. Locally-grown produce is not known to carry Cyclospora," the BCCDC said in a release. The parasite is commonly found in tropical and subtropical areas, including Peru, Cuba, India, Nepal, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Southeast Asia. Symptoms of the illness can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. Some people also experience a fever. "One thing of note is that the diarrhea for cyclospora can last for quite a while — [it] can last for a few weeks," BCCDC public health physician Dr. Mayank Singal said.

Statistics Canada says Canada’s inflation rate tumbled to 2.8 per cent in June, putting it within the Bank of Canada’s target range.
Excluding gasoline, headline inflation would have been 4.0% in June, following a 4.4% increase in May. Canadians continued to see elevated grocery prices (+9.1%) and mortgage interest costs (+30.1%) in June, with those indexes contributing the most to the headline CPI increase. The all-items excluding food index rose 1.7% and the all-items excluding mortgage interest cost index rose 2.0%. https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/230718/dq230718a-eng.htm?HPA=1
