The first part is the county or city - I’m in Nottinghamshire which is NG, then there is normally a numerical value which denotes an area, so NG2 is Nottingham - West Bridgford. You also get NG1 (city centre) and NG3-dunno what (other areas). Then the final three digits are the street or section of the street, so 5FJ for example. Not fully sure how they determine the final three digits. So an example full postcode would be NG2 5FJ and you would know immediately that was a street in Nottingham(NG) West Bridgford (2)
