Even a decade of the economy being in the gutter would be worse for most than the current situation. Oh so what you’re suggesting is that everyone gets the same government owned apartment… Social housing and cooperatives are already a thing though and it can coexist with a free market, no need to kill people by destroying the economy.

You don’t need to “be able to afford a house” if it’s not a free market. But somehow this idea seems unconceavable.
