You can also make your Pi-Hole work behind a VPN but it’s much more work, NextDNS always works, no matter where I am and on what network.

What do you e.g. on your phone when your not at home and you can’t connect to the Pi-Hole?
I have yet to run into a situation where I am unable to use the VPN back home.

Yes exactly. One day I’ll get a VPS and mess around with it but for now owning the hardware is cheaper and easier.
