Nathan Sobo recently open-sourced Zed, a code editor that focuses on performance, integrates AI capabilities, and supports software teams’ collaboration out of the box. For performance, Zed leverages a Rust code base, multicore- and GPU-optimized code, with a custom Rust GUI framework. For collaboration, Zed relies on CRDTs and team channels. Zed is currently Mac only.

Nice, been finding vscode more and more laggy after each update, so hopefully this is something to replace it with at some point.

I had the same prob, when I swapped to Codium and paired down my plugins, it was snappy again.

The inevitable cycle of modern open-source text editors. First there was Atom, then that got too slow and most switched to VS Code. Next seems to be Zed… I wonder what comes after it!

Seems fair tbh. As long as the total usability goes up to that is!

Lapce looks pretty cool, for an alpha.
