Here is a use case: multiple device sync.
With a server client infrastructure, read status are synced to the server, so if I change device, I can pick it up where I left off. Same thing as using a cloud service, but self hosted.
Antennapod does offer that by hooking into the gpodder.net API.ive had varying success with gpodder.net but hosting that yourself (I host it as an app on my Nextcloud) is a breeze

Thx, for podcasts, I paid for pocketcast a long time ago, so I’m fine for now. I’m mainly looking for this use case, but for a standard RSS reader.
