A proprietary, closed and gated service is not free and open source software. FLOSS does not win if a third party adds a bridge to consume content through a protocol. I think that the FLOSS community in general and XMPP in particular gained nothing at all by Google adopting it in Google Chat.
I don’t think so. FLOSS devs never seem to attract FLOSS designers. I’d love to collab with them, but they all seem to like designing not-FLOSS things.
