The context is there and it is true. My village government, the library, the schools don’t post updates to their websites, it’s all facebook. The local booster clubs and social groups are all on facebook. We do push them to post in real outlets too, and one local booster club publishes a Newsletter, but the default is facebook.
That is malfeasance. To post government updates to a site that requires signup and devours user data – and nowhere else – is either lazy or malicious. Surely, they have their own sites.
Somewhat related, the local burner community is just finally realizing that Facebook is not the right place to congregate. I guess fucking over their users has a long tail.
I know it’s difficult but just call a friend who is on facebook in the group for updates.
Enough people start doing that and the group will realize there’s a demand for off Facebook communication.
Even mastadon would be sufficient. But a signal group or even sms is enough.
