i downloaded a torrent file, and for good practice started seeding overnight reaching more than the 1:1 ratio, should i just delete the file or is there a way to correctly stop seeding?, im using qbitorrent

You can remove the torrent itself without removing the files.
You can set a seeding limit in the option, it’s under “BitTorrent” “Seeding Limit”. The torrent will then go to “Completed” and not seed anymore once it’s reached the limit. You can also manually “Pause” a fully downloaded torrent and it will stop seeding.
I wouldn’t say it’s more “correct” than deleting it and I personally also delete them. But keeping the torrents on a “Completed” status would allow reseeding or redownloading without having to find the torrent file again. It could also serve as a log to easily see what you have downloaded.
thank you, makes sense to leave it as Completed, if by any circumstance some of the torrents i’ve downloaded lack the presence of seeders ill help :p
Hit the pause button.
alright i’ll do that, so deleting the file its like being a leach even tho i reached the ratio?
You can delete it once you’ve hit a good ratio. If you pause, just means you can resume and reseed in the future.
qbittorrent has an option to automatically stop torrents when they reach a certain threshold in the options menu. Set it to 0 and it will stop it once download is complete. https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/How-to-disable-auto-seed
Boooo leecher… Sharing is caring! Use a VPN if you are worried about getting a “friendly” message from copyright firms.
I just hope qbittorrent gets i2p torrents soon. Then we can all reseed freely without much worry :)
Except you should set it to at least seed to a 1:1 ratio so that you’re giving back as much as you download.
Did you mean 2:1? 1:1 is basically leeching because the network cannot grow. 2:1 means you’re supporting growth therefore seeding.
While anything over 1:1 is ideal, I think we can agree that setting it to at least 1:1 is better than setting it to 0 as u/Riusaki suggested. While it is the bare minimum, it’s not in any sense leeching to give back as much as much as you’ve received.
If you never stop seeding, you never have to worry about it.
Oh won’t my fellow thieves please show some decency! LMAO! Don’t worry, I don’t use P2P, but the high and mighty attitude given the context does tickle me!

This guy seeds!
3000 torrents and counting.
Do you have a seed box? I would assume with that many torrents?
Yes and no. I keep a seedbox for convenience, but the vast majority of them are hosted on a home server.
Doesn’t it mess with your home internet?
Not in any noticeable way. I have a gigabit connection and the server runs over ethernet so it doesn’t clog up the wifi. There is no noticeable difference when I run a speed test on another device with the server turned on vs. turned off. I’ve never gotten an ISP letter either, so it seems I’m doing something right.
I seed to 500% and then it auto stops. But I wouldn’t mind if Qbittorrent had an option where it would start seeding again automatically a while if the torrent had too few sources at some point later.
Have it set the torrent to superseeding mode instead of stopping it. It makes it seed only chunks that are not available in your swarm.
This script triggers changes by reading ratio and seed numbers, but I think its main goal is to never stop seeding rather than reading paused torrents. https://github.com/tomodoro/qbitseedmgr
if they do that available that would be really cool, like a notification or an option in settings
