He was president for four years. He ran on making the place great again (?). Why didn’t he? Golf was more important?

Since we’re all asking for various content filters, can I kindly request that all posts about this woman have an NSFW tag so I don’t have to see that face in my feed?

It’s the sickness we should be treating, instead of constantly triaging all the symptoms.

The empathy deficit in this country is what’s killing us all.

If voting patterns are any indication, people without children already tend to vote against education and childcare funding. Thank you for being an exception. As someone who works around kids and has many friends who do, I can’t emphasize enough the difference that just a little more funding can make to improving the lives of children - and by extension society at large.

People who are disconnected from it don’t see the direct connection between, say, teacher morale and support, and how well students do. If the teachers in a system are always stressed because they’re underpaid, always scrounging for supplies, and in charge of too large a classroom, everyone in the class suffers. And when kids with emotional disorders spike because there is no support for parents, they soak up all the attention, and students who might be fine start floundering because the staff is busy trying to keep a leash on the poor kid who is acting out because his parents are fucked up.

Modern conservative politics and “polite discussion” are like oil and water.

And also because conservatives will always cut programs and regulations that make life easier for people with disabilities.

They would dismantle the entire Americans with Disabilities Act if they could just to line the pockets of their corporate masters.

Of course he did. He and his party don’t want people with disabilities to vote, because then they might have to actually start paying attention to them in ways that go beyond giving campaign-season lip service to tEh TrOoPs.

The so-called “refugee problem” would not exist if countries with means would actually deal with the root causes of people fleeing countries without means. In the US it’s much the same with Mexico and other countries south of us.

Their countries are going to shit because of the accumulated circumstances of centuries of colonialist exploitation, and people there are forced to take their lives into their own hands and try to go somewhere else, because staying isn’t an option for them anymore.

Refugees are just a symptom. We need to address the illness itself, or it will never go away.

Sadly, the symptoms make for an easy political wedge issues to score cheap points, and so it remains beneficial for certain politicians to continue ignoring the illness.

We should all just be glad that James Cameron wasn’t on board. Imagine never getting another one of his movies because he Heart -of-the-Ocean’ed himself.

I am, however, enjoying the gradual turn from the search and rescue efforts to assigning blame and pointing out all the noted issues with the vessel that went missing - and the pushback from people saying it was completely safe.

History repeats itself.

Every. Time.

The code itself might be highly complex and sophisticated, but it almost always takes a malicious link to get it into the system where it can do its work.

That’s not a bad point. I still get the occasional reply notification from comments many years old, from people who were looking for a conversation on a topic and engaged with what I said a decade ago.

I suppose it would be somewhat impactful if those comments were just empty voids, perhaps even moreso if they were all replaced by a message saying something like “I left reddit because of X, look for me on the feddiverse to continue this conversation.”

Is there any metric measuring that, though? Of course they track app downloads, and can tell if people are using it, but I don’t know if there’s any way for them to know who is actually keeping it on their phone. A mass deletion wouldn’t mean anything unless it’s by people who were already using it daily. Giving it a low rating on the app store might be seen though.

Iirc, the Satanic Temple has done some things like that, usually in reaction to a specific equivalent act by an evangelical organization. They don’t do it often, I don’t think, because the backlash can end up being more harmful to the cause, but you’re not the first to suggest it.

I certainly wouldn’t expect the typical faceboomer to know that.

Forcing mods back is one thing, but it’s a lot harder to bring back users once they’ve found another chew toy to gnaw on.

The definition of ‘old’ has also shifted, though. Personally I don’t care much how old a person are. I only care how old their ideas are.

Bold of you to assume there was ever anything better before that. Two hundred years of nearly all affluent establishment geriatric white guys, who ran against affluent establishment geriatric white guys.

I predict a show segment where he does a photoshoot for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.

If anything, that would just undercut the 300 other subreddits already devoted to cat videos.

Using “purge” unironically in reference to human beings is a serious red flag for identifying fascist pieces of shit.

For a moment I thought I had stumbled on a Lemmy equivalent of r/nottheonion. This man is a cartoon.
