Summary by Google Bard:

The article “The Cloud Is a Prison. Can the Local-First Software Movement Set Us Free?” by Gregory Barber discusses the growing movement towards local-first computing.

This movement advocates for a more privacy-focused and secure way of computing, where data is stored and processed locally on the user’s device instead of on remote servers. The author argues that the cloud is not as secure or private as we think it is, and that local-first computing offers a number of advantages, such as better performance, greater control over data, and reduced reliance on large corporations.

Have you tried the website MagnetDL or 1337xto? I had to use it recently for an old (1950s) tv show for my great grandmother and was able to find it: https://www.1377x.to/

Transmission on macOS, Windows and Linux.

I used other programs prior, but I like the simplicity of Transmission.

That being said, if you want a full-featured program, qbTorrent and Deluge are great.

To add to this, you can install AdGuard Public DNS mobile config file, and tweak it (via profile builder on their website) to add family protection and change from just a pseudo VPN to DNS over HTTPS, TLS + add Wi-Fi networks for it to ignore automatically and exclude some domains.

Edit: forgot to include link

I haven’t tried jelly fin so I’ll have to try it out; on my Apple devices I use Infuse Pro.

That being said, I really enjoy Kodi even though I know many despite it. Kodi to me is Firefox pre v56/57 where even though it shows its age, the customizability and utility is what makes it what it is.
