You aren’t wrong. It is something to be careful of. Here’s one source

https://www.tomsguide.com/news/avoid-these-android-tv-boxes-like-the-plague-they-come-pre-loaded-with-malware

Best might be to go with a known brand, get a Raspberry Pi, get something like the Intel Nuc if you want something more capable and a wireless keyboard to go with it.

You only need calibre and it handles everything for you.

An issue you may run into is light gray font, which is easily solved

Why does purpose or ethics matter. It is called piracy and not robin hood.

Whatever the intent, it incentives archival even with selfish purposes across different decentralized sources, which is pretty valuable with that huge amount of data that would be expensive for a centralized entity to archive on their own. Not to mention a single point of failure. So even selfishness is leading to helping history not be lost.

And you think 100 years from now or longer if some random historian comes across some still working storage containing long lost media that a pirate had kept they are going to care about the legality of that at the time?

And don’t forget how much game versions change from launch, so new version is history too. Same for movies and shows and books with how editing has been done that’s led to loss of the original copy. And led to reliance of fans to restore content like Star Wars.

It is happening now with Netflix too where now the pirated versions of some Netflix show is the only way to see what was originally shown.

“We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about,” the siblings told Variety, referring to the Star Wars director’s much-critiqued altered re-releases of the original franchise. “It’s not, like, story, but you’re essentially patching in shots.”

The MCU’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is barely a year old, but even the Marvel superhero miniseries isn’t immune from Disney’s re-editing efforts. In March 2022 some devoted Reddit fans discovered that a scene where Bucky throws a pipe through a woman’s shoulder had been altered so that woman falls back on the pipe instead.

14 years… Time doesn’t stand still for that long.

As much as I complain about denuvo I still do buy the games even if they do get cracked. I don’t pirate any PC games, since exes are just not something I want to risk. I’ve got a collection of legal games that surpasses the availability of gamepass. PC gamepass advertisement says ‘Play over 100 high-quality games on Windows PC.’ That’s a baby collection compared to what I got in my legal library of games. That’s not even bringing GOG into the mix.

Has a wiki that has some streaming resources to use in the future.

And if you don’t understand it and you do find yourself needing to do some terminal stuff chatgpt can be helpful breaking down what is going on.

I’m a billionaire. I have my own private island that floats above the world and I can also teleport anywhere in an instant and open portals into other dimensions. And I have a pet dragon named Sparkles.

Thanks to https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/ober found that ipleak.net can be used to check if you VPN is leaking your IP before proceeding with torrenting.

And also using Qbittorrent to tie the client to the VPN by going to Tools > Preferences > Advanced and changing network interface to your VPN.

I’ve been old reddit user so I was right at home. I wonder if the ones who consider it ugly are the ones who stuck with the default reddit.

Yeah, in the end I’m here for people who know more than me providing good resources. And if they can’t figure out even making a lemmy account then they probably weren’t much help beyond memes. And I’m dumb shit, so it’s not like it takes competence to make an account.

There is the mega thread on the side bar. Here’s the music section maybe it’ll have something you are looking for

Here’s also the freemediaheckyeah wiki

Just go to be sure the download the clean adware free version from what I remember. Easy for Linux though since it is available in the repo. On windows I think you go to the page https://jdownloader.org/jdownloader2

Been a long time since I used it on Windows.

Not sure what you are asking for, but one thing I can recommend is that for qbittorent to go to settings > Advanced > Network Interface to tie your VPN to the client. This will help in the event your VPN cuts out reducing chances of your IP address leaking.

Pirates adapt or die. So at the very least you have increased your chances of survival. Don’t know if sharks will eat you though.

Noticed there’s a lot of geeky people on lemmy, and so many seem to be using stuff like linux in threads asking what OS do you use. Which is definitely a big outlier from the average user. So seems like even if the numbers aren’t high that there’s a lot of people who can provide tech support to dumb people like me.

Could ask the guy and he might do it. I love his tutorials, and would probably love the opportunity to make more content.

Check the megathread on the side it has everything.

But, from what is recommended on there I have found torrentgalaxy coming close to rarbg.

Some people here are saying i2p may be the future https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/259433 Sounds like Qbittorrent is planning to provide i2p support too. So hopefully port forwarding won’t matter as much for future releases.

This is the type of guides I love. It is so thorough and educates people like me who are clueless on the process.

Do you use handbreak to do it? And what settings? Is it something that needs to be played around with to see how output is, so doing small segment to determine what is ideal?

x265 because I like the file size and am satisfied with the quality.

Whether pirates have wanted or not if they pirated long enough they have experience lot of things being killed off. Torrent sites they relied on dying and disappearing for good like rarbg. Recent reddit causality being r/newyuzupiracy. Direct links being killed off like megaupload. Discord channels dedicated to piracy or jailbreaking being banned and killed off (why isn’t stuff like matrix more common instead of hoping Discord ignores them?).

The constant search for new methods to piracy p2p, torrents, usenet, i2p, irc, discord bots, telegram bots, etc.

It’s not an area that has stability so pushes people to constantly be searching and finding new ways to pirate. Being on centralized places has always been borrowed time. Piracy in the long run always ends up having to search for a new home, better places, better methods. It’s a nomadic lifestyle in the digital space by the nature of it and the hostility towards pirates from those in power.

But, one thing that has remained a constant has been decentralization. With no better representation of that spirit than bittorrent. As long as a few people have it the source remains alive.

Yeah, I’d prefer it to be a resource educating and assisting people to the best options to go to than to actually be sharing direct file links or anything like that. There’s other sites that are handling that side.

Then go open up your own sub if you want a piracy sub on reddit that much. You think it’s the name that makes a sub special? Could be /r/shitideas and if you made it focused on piracy it’d be a piracy sub. Acting like there’s something stopping you from starting up your own. If anything it being /r/shitideas would make it easier to go under the radar and attract less attention from being shut down. Step up if you want it.

Don’t even need to do that. Just need to point to what happened to /r/megalinks

https://web.archive.org/web/20190318150116/https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/avymfq/rmegalinks_subreddit_was_banned_again/

Looked through the archive from 2019 /u/qefbuo said

Personally I think we should move to a decentralized network like Diaspora, anywhere we gather that’s centralized is on borrowed time.

Or what more recently happened with r/newyuzupiracy

https://kotaku.com/zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-reddit-piracy-banned-yuzu-1850547515

When reddit decides a ban hammer is going to strike there is no warning.

People are so brain dead that they think the only place to get answers on piracy is reddit. Even 4chan is better if they can’t be bothered to come here or raddle or any piracy forums that exist outside of reddit if they are left that clueless.

Should nuke the stuff on reddit, and give it back to them to figure it all out for themselves. They can have their sub if they want to talk piracy on reddit that much. Probably go about recommending piratebay to each other to download software and games.

That should be the way for every sub really. Just wipe and leave it unmoderated and tell the people who are whining to go mod it themselves now that it’s back open.

Or in more official terms. This is not a declaration of piracy. We are only conducting special archival operation.

Does it pass actual Dolby vision signal or is it converting it to SDR? When I tried mpv long time ago it didn’t send HDR signal and just converted it to SDR.

Is there a way to watch Dolby Vision content properly without having to move files to play from TV?
My set up has been MPC and MadVR for HDR content, but dolby vision when I tried long ago didn't work properly. Has any players come out since then for dolby vision support?

I use newpipe already so it’s a quick download of video or audio file from newpipe itself as I’m looking through subscription.

Kind of hard to notice copyright laws when I’m busy sailing and feeling the fresh ocean breeze.

Who makes the best x265 2160p releases that are a good balance of size and quality?
Some names I had seen mentioned are TERMINAL and SWTYBLZ. But, I SWTYBLZ is gone now 🙁 since they were RARBG release group.

What is take-me-to.space?
Keep seeing that address getting blocked by malwarebytes as I'm browsing here.

I thought it’d be useful for people who are only subscribed to /c/piracy from another instance to become aware of the communities local to this one
Found out I was missing out on a lot and that communities in all to subscribe to don't show up until someone from your instance searches them out So here's some that have interested me. - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/div0 - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/stable_diffusion - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/lemmyarchivists - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/crackwatch - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/bbses - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/roms - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/retropirates - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/vitapiracy - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/switchpiracy - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/steamdeckpirates - https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/cemupiracy
