My reasons for pirating varies by the context, however. Sometimes, I’m pirating something for morals & freedom, while other times it is because I would rather pay money for it but the only option is a DRMed one (and yes Steam is a form of DRM if it requires Steam to play), whilst other times I just pirate it because I don’t wanna pay for it.
So, yes, depending on the context, someone can be a pirate for reasons other than “pirate”.
Bottom-line is that while I agree with you that people shouldn’t kid themselves if they’re just being a pirate for pirating’s sake, I think you also shouldn’t ridicule others who are pirating for less-selfish motivations, at least during instances when that is their sole, or at least primary, motivation.
Tl;dr – Shit’s complex yo.
Exactly, which is why I
Use a VPN server specifically configured for P2P,
Use port forwarding on said server,
Only have three torrents active at a time so as not to divide my bandwidth too much, and
Typically seed for weeks at a time so as to give the ratio time to build at such low speeds. (I typically try to seed up to 10.0x, but you know, with old seeds, that’s not always possible to do even with weeks of seeding. :) )
Seeding in this way may not be very effective, but it makes it at least feasible.
AFAIK Proton is the only one, or at least one of the very few, in the market that supports Port Forwarding. Mullvad got rid of theirs, which frankly sucks because although my experience has been (mostly) great, I’ve also heard great things about Mullvad, and it’s best (and nice) to have competitive alternatives to choose from.
Gross.
Welp, I sure hope either we stay on the winning side of the cat-and-mouse game or a lot of creators jump ship to other emerging platforms (not that there are many), because it’d be a damn shame to have to stop watching some of the creators I enjoy watching. Many of them are damned talented folks IMHO.
I’ve heard good things about Nebula, but sadly a lot of the channels I watch are not quite on there yet. Also, I’m broke, so there’s that. Lol.
I really hate to be “that person”, but..........it’s “run of the mill”, not “run off the mill”, friend.
It’s a term from the late 1800s that refers to “manufactured goods not graded or sorted for quality—that is, a mill’s products before they’ve been separated according to what will sell for how much.” (Source for quote: https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/where-does-run-of-the-mill-come-from)
Seriously, I’m not trying to be a grammar nazi here. Unless of course that was just autocorrect being a dick, in which case I’ll go walk off a cliff now… :/
You and another have already said it, but Emuparadise. It was…truly a shame. :'(
