I’m curious to see how the combat mechanics will be accepted. Reads like Mass Effect in a high fantasy setting. Could be cool, but at the same time, Dragon Age fans will come to expect something more strategic.

I think that take is short sighted. Because the next obvious step to “no right to online anonymity” is “online anonymity is illegal”, and it’s pretty obvious we’re headed that way. In that case, courts can make it pretty fucking hard to protect your right to privacy.

I started it as well. Had weird sound issues that I had to fix by downgrading my system sample rate. It looks and feels amazing now that it works.

The characters are great. It’s not BG3 obviously, but there’s enough depth there. Like I said, it’s on the level of a goofy action movie plot from 20 years ago. No ones gonna get an oscar but you’ll be entertained nonetheless.

It has a lot of Doom-like exploration for new gear and other goodies. Also a handful optional bosses which are pretty hard to beat. But the shooting revolves around basically 3 weapon types (magic types in this case): a DMR, an SMG and a shotgun. The variations thereof don’t feel different enough and the feedback lacks kick, so the shooting doesn’t feel very meaty. It’s still solid enough, but the story is definitely what carried me through the 20ish hours of the game.

I just finished Immortals of Aveum. I really liked the story. Felt like an early 2000 science fiction action movie. It’s gorgeous looking but the shooting didn’t have enough oomph to be really fun, so I stopped playing after the credits rolled. Didn’t feel the need to 100% it.

I would still recommend turning wifi off when leaving home for privacy reasons (which can easily be automated). The process to identify if a network is trusted or not requires a handshake. So leaving wifi on makes you trackable by the wifi network operators and the apps on your phone with access to your wifi, wether you connect a network or not.

I played a resist durge and I get the feeling I saw like at least 80% of the game. I might do a murder hobo illithid run at some point, where I drag all my origin companions to the dark side. But another 100 hour run just to see the remaining 20%… I don’t know, seems like work.

Couldn’t participate in these threads for a while, because it would have been the same game over and over again. But now I’m finally free! I beat Baldurs Gate 3 with a 150+ hours resist dark urge run.

I started Immortals of Aveum as a palate cleanser. Pretty decent FPS with a cool story and lots of secrets.

I never understood how movie-web got so popular when services like FMovies exist.

That’s not quite what I meant.

The argument I most often see and is that TikTok should stay because Facebook and Google are just as bad. That’s stupid because foreign espionage is obviously worse than domestic espionage to any government.

If your argument is that the TikTok ban is good and Facebook and Google should be next because of the similar practises then I’m 100% with you.

I don’t understand why people get so upset about this. Yes, Google, Facebook, etc. hoard your data too. But there’s a big difference wether that data is hoarded domestically or by a foreign nation that is pretty blatant about their industry espionage and political propaganda. Yes, the US do it too. But you really can’t blame a country for protecting it’s interests, be they ethical or not.

Oh man that game is such a hidden gem. The art style is gorgeous and the puzzles are really organic and make you feel like you’re getting smarter.

I recalled that too. It was like 15 years ago think. The whole thing was a disaster. Adoption was as much an issue as compatibility. Linux and LibreOffice has come along a long way since then. But so did MS. Not even google manages to compete with the level of integration and interoperability MS has. Also, being a state organized enterprise, you just know the transition phase is gonna be chaos incarnate. I just hope the top management is ready for the fight. I truly believe it’s worth it.

Currently playibg Hogwarts Legacy. I don’t like the Harry Potter universe but I was curious what the hype was about. My lord is that game good. The visuals, the sounds, every little detail oozes magical whimsy. There’s a lot of standard open world collecting but the world is so cozy and fun I don’t even wanna use the quick travel.

I doubt they would be able to. I was interested and looked around a bit. There’s even a whole chapter in their documentation dedicated to adding extractors. First paragraph of that chapter is basically ‘‘do not add piracy websites’’

youtube-dl does something similar (it works on a lot more than just youtube). AFAIK each site needs a slightly altered code. You could have a look at the source on their github.

It might be as easy as forking the project and creating your own extractor.py.

I just finished Portal Revolution. Puzzles were high quality. Story, script and voice acting was meh. Now I’m playing Outriders, which I bought during the winter sale. Super mid game, very formulaic gameplay. Story and visuals are kinda cool.

Infiltrate them to track users like they already do now. And if your answer to that is ‘‘VPN’’, there are already countries where these are forbidden by law, what’s to stop them from being outlawed in more countries in the future.

I’m torn. I think everybody should fight back the predatory practices of the entertainment industry. But the more mainstream the piracy practices become, the more crackdown there’s gonna be, and the more of a hassle it’s gonna be to find pirated content.

What do you mean by secret tips? Streaming is pretty straight forward. Are you looking for decent streaming sites? In that case go to https://fmhy.net/ and check out the streaming section.

Do you have examples for the sites that don’t render correctly? I’m genuinely curious since I haven’t encountered that issue in like a decade.

Well dutch is almost a case of its own regarding difficulty to find dubbed content. Even your regular tv channels don’t dub american content, which means almost everyone in the netherlands is fluent in english: barely anyone needs dubs.

I was curious and latest statistics show 43% of users between 16 and 24 use ad blockers. We’re already at bra level of mainstreamyness.

Ok, I know we love to shit on that “game”, but that video in and of itself left me speechless.

I do use steam so please don’t misunderstand this as bashing, but you don’t own anything on steam either. You rent it for life and access can legally be withdrawn if you act against the TOS. If you’re looking to buy games GOG is the only real option I know of.

Sable. No fighting. Just exploring and getting immersed.

Mullvad doesn’t have port forwarding anymore. As long as you don’t want to leech top secret dark net torrents that only 3 people have in the world, you’re absolutely fine.

The same 3 VPNs get recommended each time this question is asked:

  • Mullvad
  • Proton
  • IVPN

That sounds like the error message of a dev that handed in his 2 weeks.

After having beaten The Pathless yesterday I started playing Uncharted 4. I’m a couple hours in and I have to say, it feels a lot more like an interactive movie than an actual game. I’m hoping it gets more interesting

I honestly didn’t like it. There just isn’t a lot of game in that interactive book.

Dude, you were quick to forget about the reddit threads of “hidden gems”, where the top voted answers were Skyrim, Witcher 3 and RDR2.

This is a gold mine in comparison…

I wish that praxis of just sharing links and videos died out with reddit

From Wikipedia: Lemmy is free and open-source software for running self-hosted social news aggregation and discussion forums

If you don’t want to be on a platform that aggregates social news, Lemmy probably isn’t the right place for you.

Your best bet would be to create a community called “gaming discussions” for example, and restrict link posts.

Reddit doesn’t snitch on “piracy” commenters
A group of filmmakers wants Reddit to disclose the identities of several users who made piracy-related comments. Reddit objects, citing its users' right to anonymous speech.

Apparently Reddit is now preventing people to anonymously browse NSFW posts in the browser. Instead they invite you to download the app.
