njal.la is without a doubt one of the better ones if privacy is number one priority.

Believe it got taken down a while a go, have not seen it up for a good couple of weeks myself.

Neber tried it with Android Auto before, but I doubt it would, it’s a mesh vpn - not a typical vpn(proxy). So Tailscale is mostly for connecting your own devices together, however it’s possible that configure it to use Mullvad for exit nodes, if needed.

How is this done? If you don’t mind sharing 🤗

Have a look at Tailscale for your devices, this will prevent you from having to expose anything to the Internet, but rather having it behind your own VPN solution. Tailscale is the kinda service that is stupid easy to get going with too. HIGHLY recommend it!

What storage manufacturer do you swear to and why?
There are quite a few choices of brands when it comes to purchasing harddisks or ssd, but which one do you find the most reliable one? Personally had great experiences with SeaGate, but heard ChrisTitus had the opposite experience with them. So curious to what manufacturers people here swear to and why? Which ones do you have the worst experience with?

This looks exactly like what I was looking for thanks babes

Dozzle looks really great, imma check this out 🌻

I used to use Portainer quite a bit, but after migrating to Unraid i feel like their UI was a bit superior in most ways (for my use), but thanks:)

What’s a simple logging service?
Hiya, I'm looking to keep track of my different services in hosting via Unraid. Right now I'm hosting roughly 12 different services, but would be nice to have the logs of all my services in one place, preferably with a nice GUI. Are there any such services that could easily connect to the different docker containers I have running? Appreciate any suggestions 🙌

Tried it myself a whole ago, but indeed was a little to early stages. Hope it’s gotten better now though. Personally fell onto ombi over jellyseer too. Would love to see an update post on how you feel about if you end up using it for a while 👍

This is my favourite newsletter atm, love checking out the new discoveries!

Woah, how is this possible? Mind sending a guide or post about this?

For many of us, paying for these services are more convenient that putting up with the bullshit of services like Netflix and Amazon etc… There are so many streaming sites now that it really isn’t convenient anymore.

But yes; Just like there are greedy streaming services there are greedy VPN providers. So folks should keep up-to-date on who to choose. (If you ask me, stick with either Mullvad, IVPN or Proton VPN. I’ve done a lot of research and still am on the landscape of VPNs for my master thesis, and it’s a pretty nasty corner of the internt…)

Piracy isn’t purely about getting things for free, it’s about convince and preserving digital media too.

Wow wow! Just trying the demo out feels super snappy and good, also crazy how fast the images load compared to other solutions i’ve tried! Will defo give this a shot when available on Unraid (Unless i do it myself).

Here’s a 🌻 as my appreciation for your work!

It’s beyond repair state. Also it’s the second time it’s happened, did actually repair them the first time, but this time it was way worse. Should have attached picture of it maybe, but wanted a new laptop for a while anyways 😋

Yepp, fair point and likely what will end up happening :P

I like the idea! Although I do have a Nvidia Shield Pro, but I have a look around and see if there are any specific good TV OS that suits my needs. Thanks!

Services to host on a retired laptop?
Hello fellow hosters, I recently had to purchase a new laptop because my old laptop([MSI - PS63 Modern 8RC](https://www.msi.com/Content-Creation/PS63-MODERN-8RX/Specification)) had its hinges finally give in, so the screen(lid) can barely be opened and closed anymore. The laptop isn't totally outdated yet in terms of specs. I already have a server that hosts most of my day to day apps, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to what i could host on this retired laptop, that I would manage remotely. Are there any specific services that makes more sense to host on a laptop that would be sitting turned on but put away somewhere? Or should I just tear the PC apart for it's parts and throw the rest away? Let me know if you have any similar experiences or tips 🌻

Just FYI, it’s against the rules asking for specific titles in this community. I personally don’t mind it but if you wonder why your post will eventually get removed - then that’s the reason…

Have absolutely fallen in love with this blog posts! Just downloaded Twine to test it out, seems very basic as of yet, but will give it a week or two of testing 🌻

Ahh I’m not too familiar with seedboxes, thanks 🌻

Since nobody else asked about this, why ruTorrent over the other typical download clients?

Although correct, there feature set is amazing and expanding. Tailscale is my number one tool of choice, these days, it’s so simple and so handy.

Tailscale is my favourite tool of all, just makes life so much more simple!

NextDNS is awesome if you want the simple solution, and don’t have any hardware to install services on. Thee free version is somehwta limited to queries(300k per month), but personally didn’t hit those when I was using the free tier.

NextDNS has a lot of nice customization and can easily had custom block lists. The pro version is 2euros a month I believe. I personally stick with NextDNS due to never having to worry about updating the service and it always just works. I also have it hooked to my Tailnet, that way all my devices use it by default.

But ofc, Pihole, Adguard and the rest are also awesome. Best to just pick one that looks good for you. The end goal here is to just have something running in the background rather than nothing.

Tailscale and Mullvad VPN recently partnered up to solve this exact issue. So in the admin panel of tailscale you could set up a device as an exitnode and then have that run through one of Mullvads servers. It’s all very neat and simple 😊

Fractal seems far superior at least in the budget range. Personally just bought a R5 second-hand for roughly 40euros. Totally worth it imo 😁

If there is one thing you shouldn’t cheap out on imo it’s the storage.

Have tried it for a while and Its ok, nothing super special. It’s nice that they offer 10GB for free for. I would choose skiff any time over any other less privacy focused providers like outlook and Gmail. But my favourites still stand with Mailbox.org and Protonmail.

Totally go with Tailscale, can’t stress how nice it is.

If this, then I would highly recommend Tailscale or Headscale. Just simplifies this process so much. Tailscale is so darn good, my number one tool of choice.

How does RSS work under the hood?
Wasn't quite sure where to ask this question, but figured if anyone, it would be selfhosters who are mostly into RSS. I've recently been getting into RSS feeds for reading my news, watching YT (via FreeTube) and listening to podcasts - and its been nothing but great! However I was wondering how RSS works under the hood. I couldn't find many good sources on it, so if you have any good reads please hit me up. My main question; *is RSS a one-way protocol?* Considering when using Freetube or Newpipe, it's able to fetch videos, views and comments etc, but I assume its only a one way thing seeing one cannot comment or like the video? And I guess this applies to podcasts and news sites as well? What happens during podcasts if I skip ads during the podcast? Does that hurt the podcaster, in the sense that I am skipping the ad-section, or does it still count as the RSS feed has already been "pulled" to my device? If anyone could help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it :)

Questions around disk space and parity in unraid
So I recently found out that I have sh*t my leg... I was about to set up unraid but just before dipping my toes I was told that the parity drive needs to be the same or larger in size, really wish I had done more thorough reseach before recently buying that 10TB HDD hehe... My planned setup was; 250 GB - SSD (Cache) 1 TB - HDD (Parity) 2 TB - HDD (Pool) 10 TB - HDD (Pool) So what are my option now that I have messed that up, what would you recommend? To go without parity or is there another way? Any help is appriciated, I am still quite new to selfhosting/linux :) **UPDATE**; I can trade the 10TB for two 4TB disks + the extra. Should I?

Sharing RealDebrid Account with Family?
Recently discovered the wonders of the stremio + real debrid + torrentio, works wonders on the newly bought Nvidia Shield Pro. However, I would like for the rest of the family to experinece the same, and completely get rid of all other streaming services. But... as the pirate I am, I started thinking about workarounds for only having to pay for 1 real debrid account. As my family is scattered across multiple different locations, we cannot due to RDs rules, share account, as far as I've understood. So my question to my fellow pirates are as follows: - Is there a way for me to ONLY pay for 1 RD account, yet give access to other family members? - What happens if I were to run all TV's and devices behind the same VPN(tailscale exitnode), would that be enough to to let Real Debrid think we're all on the same network? I have the full *arr stack set up on the side, (but much prefer to be streaming most of what I watch). I will however download older series and shows that have multiple seasons. Or is the answer to this to turn to Usenet instead? Let me know ur thoughts and experiences.

[Question] Tailscale to avoid Netflix TV restrictions?
Hello Sailors, So sadly my family still insists on using Netflix(for now), and with their recent restrictions you can only have one active TV at the time, unless the TVs are in the same home. So this had me question, what happens if all TVs are put on the same tailnet(or same subnet for that sake), would that be able to "trick" the netflix system? Has anyone tried this? Or do we already know that it wouldnt work? *(I am working on setting up the full arr stack)*

How much does it matter where my domain registrar is located?
Edit, Solved in comments 👌 I want to buy a domain name for personal usage (reverse proxy, selfhosting serivces). I'll probably go with a general purpose `.net` or my country specifc one. I am based in Northern Europe. - Does it matter based on where I am located where the domain is registered? - Any recommendations for domain registrars in that regard? Thanks

Tailscale + VPN possible?
Hi peeps, a little lost in the self-hosting world right now, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've just set up all the *arr apps that i want and need for media, music and books. And am at the step where i am supposed to bind a VPN to my qBittorrent. However, I am ofc running everything behind the beloved Tailscale. But just realised I am not allowed to run tailscale at the same time as another VPN(ProtonVPN in my case). How do i get past this cross-road? I really want to stick with using Tailscale for accessing my services. Is a reverse proxy something i should look into instead? I need my server to sit behind a VPN.. Appreciate any tips or tricks for how other people solved this buckle.

Apple TV vs Firestick for pirated movies and series?
(Repost ish, from Technology), So I just bought a new telly and to my surprise, not, the OS is rather bad and has very limited amount of apps. Therefore I'll invest further in either Apple TV or the Firestick. Anyone got any recommendations, tips or hot takes on this in terms of pirated content? Which is more accessible and I reckon both support Jellyfin?
