I prefer the 32 bit signed integer underflow in my favor.

There is a single aspect in which the Switch remains superior: Simplicity. Sure, you could take the time once to set up Yuzu and your Switch games and be rewarded with superior performance.

But the technically less experienced user might be put off by the fact that you can‘t just plonk in the game and play it. That‘s however not exclusive to the Switch.

I tried downloading Switch games from uuuuh… rather bespoke sites and they had a rather uuuuh… curious idea of what ads you could throw into the users face. Vivaldi‘s integrated adblocker simply couldn‘t handle those sites. That discouraged me from downloading games for now. Luckily MIG-Dumper is there to save the day and allow me to back up my games to later play them in Yuzu.

Isn‘t the battery simply mounted with sticky tape and thanks to the case being screwed in still fessibly replaceable by the user?

Apple cites security concerns for killing PWAs in europe. I mean they could‘ve made changes to the system to allow running PWAs in other browser engines by offering an API in which other applications could hook themselves into, akin to how Android did it with the web activity that is used by other apps.

But then that would mean conceding to the EU and we can‘t have that, can we?

How can you surf this site? I opened this in Vivaldi on my iPhone (with integrated adblock enabled) and it immediately greeted me with untrustworthy popups?

EDIT: This comment should‘ve gone under another users comment.

  1. People have enough RAM.
  2. Developers see people getting more RAM.
  3. Developers allow their software to use more RAM (either by doing more cool stuff or optimizing less stuff).
  4. People have little RAM.
  5. People buy more RAM.
  6. goto 1;

This also applies to CPU and GPU.

I am working on an application using DevExpress XAF. It allows you to build a big enterprise application relatively quick by doing a lot of the dirty work you would otherwise do yourself for CRUD stuff. A lot of the application can be modified through mere clicks without touching a single line of code.

It is cool but kinda bloaty. When you simply launch an XAF application, it uses 300 megabytes of RAM. And that’s before you even loaded a single byte of business data. You have just reached the login screen.

At least i felt it was “kinda bloaty” until i first booted Void Linux on my gaming PC at home and took a look at htop. IT’S ONLY 400 MEGABYTES AND IT’S READY TO USE! MAYBE ADD 200 MEGABYTES FOR KDE!

ALL THIS BLOATING CANNOT CONTINUE! WE HAVE TO TAKE ACTION IMMEDIATELY OR WE WILL BE FOREVER DOOMED TO UPGRADE OUR RAM LEST WE DON’T WANT EVEN A FUNCTIONING TEXT EDITOR!

Kind of. First you have to buy a Texteditor token and then the license says you’re permitted to open the IPFS link in order to use Texteditor.

I’ve been wondering which crypto product i should work on. What do you think is the most promising project?

KateKash, Nanocoins, VimBucks, NotePetz++ (i heard cryptobros love ERC-20 based lifeforms), M$ WorDillars

Don’t worry, texteditor.com is also available as an app on Windows, macOS and Linux thanks to Electron.

It only needs 300 megabytes and you can style it with CSS.

Resharper really slows down Visual Studio at launch.

Inventor of Delphi: “Hey, can i copy your homework?”

Inventor to himself: “Yes, just make it look like you made it yourself.”

No sir, i also copied stuff from C++, C, Haskell and Delphi.

Missed the opportunity to draw in a teapot for HTML.

Oh dear, don’t get me started on that. I had to buy expensive software to play back the few Blu-Rays i have. CyberDVD doesn’t even allow you to skip intro videos and anti-piracy crap. You know, the crap we didn’t do when we bought the medium or ignore anyway if we create our own backups or share the media illegally.

Also i hate region-locking. I bought the complete Daria DVD collection which lacks the original soundtrack btw. And i am not permitted to watch it because what? International copyright? Technological differences we overcame long ago?

I can switch the region of my blu-ray drive in my PC 5 times. After that it will stay in the last configured region. A very, VERY arbitrary limitation!

(cue Doom Eternal soundtrack)

If only TempleOS supported TCP/IP. Luckily there is a fork called Shrine that supports TCP/IP so bringing Lemmy there would be probably doable.

This idea sucks on so, SO many levels! It’s only doable on Android as a Live Wallpaper. As a messaging app which could run on Android and iOS it solves jack since you usually look down on the phone so the ability to see what’s behind the phone doesn’t add much, especially since the keyboard will obsure some of the view. The text needs to remain legible no matter what you have in the view so have fun creating an algorithm that determines whether you want black or white text (assuming you want the same behavior as iOS). Perhaps you want to add some blur to ensure that the text stands out.

And finally: The user will probably focus on the message so there’s a chance that the user will crash into someone or something anyway.

Oh nonono, i have a cool computer project! You see, i have this app idea which will make us a lot of money! And i think that you can code the app!
