Did the person writing this have a stroke?

I learned assembly for a few weeks when I first started a new job once (didn’t even have anything to do with my job), and I always felt like my brain was tired after trying to write in assembly. Just took so much more mental concentration than writing in c for example.

Yeah, I’ve said that before. I don’t think they have enough regression tests, and unit tests.

Why are programmers so arrogant? They do have unit tests, and a dedicated test team. Refactoring can and does introduce bugs. It’s a fact.

Sure, refactoring is sometimes necessary. But refactoring also introduces new bugs often. Our code base is constantly being refactoring, and it’s not more reliable, stuff is constantly breaking.

Sure, but refactoring things constantly leads to bugs too. Once it works you should stop rewriting code. The SW team at my job didn’t get the memo.

Python one is accurate. Most of our problems are solved by importing a library and writing the line, librarySolver.importedFunction.SolveMyProblem()

def main(): Print(‘thanks librarySolver’)

You should really probably keep this on the DL. No reason to shut the project down regardless of what Nintendo does, but this needs to be done quietly now since it’s gotten a ton of attention.

Edit: Just bcz, fuck you nintendo, I’m never buying your consoles again. You lost any remaining sliver of goodwill you had with this move.

I was planning to get a new nvidia graphics card. Now I’m not so sure. This is bad news for everyone.

Eh, I don’t really care. Now that every manufacturer and developer under the sun has decided I don’t own the games I buy. I couldn’t care less about their games getting pirated. I mean, I don’t own the game anyway according to their ToS, I just rent it.

But it’s more than that. I can’t even find old game isos easily anymore. Nintendo went out of their way to threaten legal action against sites that had been up for over a decade so they could do their shitty online emulator store.

They’re going after everyone now. I bought my switch in 2016, won’t be buying another one.

Wow, fuck Nintendo. For well over a decade they didn’t give a shit about emulating old games. In fact, it was and is still the only way to play a lot of old games. Now nintendo is trying to use their shit flimsy online emulator as an excuse to claim IP right to 30 year old games they don’t give a shit about. Granted this is about the emulator itself, but doesn’t matter. Guess I won’t be buying the next switch console.

It you can pair coding with something in engineering with physics, there’s a lot less chance of that happening. That said AI taking programming jobs is still a long ways off if it ever gets there even.

A lot of programs you ask chatGPT to write have a lot of nonsense in them, so someone has to manually sift through fake api calls, or just flat out incorrect algorithms. That said it’s not a bad starting point if you are a seasoned expert and can sift through all that stuff.

C is meant for embedded stuff. #changemymind

You know hardware doesn’t last forever right? Like, I couldn’t just have kept my ipod for 20 years bcz it wouldn’t even be functional.

Yeah, this is the thing that’s making me want to go back to having a private music library again. I pay for this shit, and they keep removing songs from my play lists.

I mean, the U.S. military explicitly has a clause in their contracts that tell you there is a risk of rape during your time in the military. They do the exact same thing, try to sweep this stuff under the rug.

I remember a time when everything on my computer wasn’t trying to sell me something. Of course, my computer also came with incessant pop-ups back in the 90s too, so that wasn’t great. It was just a bunch of chat rooms, talking to strangers on the internet and playing video games.

It’s what governments and universities do. They don’t want any bad press, so they try to sweep stuff like this under the rug.

I don’t know, a tool we use at my work has a git GUI integrated, and it breaks all the time, lol.

I’ve applied to jobs from Glassdoor before. I don’t recall if I got jobs through it though. But basically every job I’ve worked I’ve found on some job board of some sort.

No, I’m saying there is nuance to phrases like this. There are multiple meanings to the word deaf. Jesus, it’s like talking to a brick wall sometimes.

I have no idea what hexbear even is. I don’t disagree with everything in the article, just think saying phrases like falling in deaf ears, or a dumb decision, is way extreme on the scale of this is problematic language.

Yeah, whatever dude. I have more important things to do than worry about phrases such as falling on deaf ears, which is one of the main phrases I take issue with in this waste of time article.

Not even sort of the same thing. The n word is a racist term people use to intimidate people. Falling on deaf ears is an expression used with a specific meaning. Now if it was intended as an intimidation tactic or something to make people fearful for their life or insult them that’d be different. This is neither of those things.

How is the phrase falling on deaf ears oppressive. Am I living in opposite world now where that’s a slur people use to try to intimidate someone?

Yeah, definitely didn’t say ‘fuck disabled people’. This is literally a made up problem.

Dude, I’m about as left leaning as it gets. The mental illness comments mentioned in the article, sure, that’s kind of problematic. But statements that are literally just expressions that have been used for probably half a century or more like “falling on deaf ears”. Gimme a break. Find something actually a problem to focus on, like the climate crisis, or the Assault on trans rights in the U.S.

If you’re offended by the phrase falling on deaf ears, which is very much just an expression, then you need to go outside more. Nobody is trying to offend deaf people with that phrase.

Didn’t someone really waste time writing an article about statements like “falling on deaf ears” being hurtful? There saved everyone a click.
