There’s no jubilation at “seeing a big game fail” there’s jubilation at seeing a game fail that is developed by a studio that is doing fucked up shit, or a game that is shovelling some fucked up agenda, or the like.

We dance on the graves of any game developed by Actiblizz, Ubisoft, EA, etc not because they are big games, but because they are developed by evil corporations.

I think it may have been removed because it was a misrepresentation of fact.

In case you still want to understand, here’s a good place to start:

You said in your comment “they tend to have appearances” which in itsself alludes to the true fact that there’s some who won’t be “covered”. I was more upset by your dismissal of their experiences than I was by your game design suggestion.

I think you’ll find a good many intersex folk would have something to say about being “covered” by being entirely excluded by your arbitrary choice of categorisation.

Biological sex is far more complicated than small and large gametes. You can choose (somewhat arbitrarily) to define biological sex by one or more of

  • chromosomal sex (which has a variety of variations beyond just xx and xy, so you’re fucked for choosing a binary here)
  • hormonal sex (which has a variety of variations beyond just “male hormones” and “female hormones”, so you’re fucked for choosing a binary here)
  • reproductive sex (which is gonna leave you defining a lot of people quite incorrectly compared to the other criteria listed)
  • how receptive their cells are to particular hormones (which will vary wildly from person to person, so good luck shoving this into a binary)

The only people who think biological sex is a simple categorisation are people who don’t fully understand the biology of sex.

But like, not everybody is born one of two biological sexes, so if we’re doing away with societal constructs we may as well get rid of this nebulous concept of a rigid biological sex binary.

Favourite: Steam Deck, hands down. It has totally revolutionised the way I play games. I very often choose to play games on my deck instead of on my far more powerful pc.

Least favourite: Smartphone. The closest I’ve come to having an enjoyable traditional gaming experience on a smartphone was Sky: Children of the Light but even then I was constantly getting frustrated with the touchscreen controls and dealing with my phone getting as hot as the surface of the sun. Its also just not a comfortable shape to hold while you game.

This ^

I have no doubt that Eddings wouldn’t want to have anything to do with anything remotely close to Pitchford after that kind of treatment. If he did, that’s a toxic as fuck environment to create.

No it was definitely empress being discussed at the time, but I could definitely see fitgirl being trans, as a fellow trans girl!

Probably a good idea not to hire the original voice actor for claptrap… 😅

Yeah, I was in the process of editing my comments when you commented. Hope the edits are suitable, communism.

Honestly I don’t keep up with her drama all that much but when I was more in the loop I definitely recall people referencing the ‘fact’ she is trans.

Literally no source now though because its been years, so feel free to disregard it as baseless.

Edit: Honestly, thinking about it now, that might have been some misogynists who just couldn’t accept that a cisgender woman could be talented enough at computer related stuff to crack denuvo. So I’m gonna erase “empress is trans” from my brain.

She’s a massive transphobe. Despite (to my understanding) being trans herself (probably not true, edited to remove)

@missingno@fedia.io I have finished the “main” game content of zap n dash with (I think) all moons, but DAMN this post-game content is HARD. Definitely b-sides/c-sides/farewell vibes

I was gonna be absolutely livid if nobody mentioned space cadet

I’m a little ways in to Celeste Mario’s Zap & Dash and its just as good as I had hoped. It makes me wish we got a metroidvania Celeste game from exok (maybe Earthblade will fill that niche)

  • The Last Campfire
  • Journey
  • GRIS
  • Night in the Woods

Have fun!

ACNH could have been so incredibly good, but there’s so much low hanging fruit, qol-wise, that they seem to have intentionally not addressed.

I heard some airy fairy info about how they added frustrating aspects to encourage players to take a break but its honestly nonsense. Bulk operations have so much friction, playing the game in multiplayer removes such a great deal of functionality to the point where it’s just not fun to have people on your island.

In fact that’s the part that frustrates me the most, they had mini games and such in a previous entry for multiplayer fun times! Why can’t we have stuff like that in ACNH? Truly baffling.

It did get me through lockdown though, so +1 for that.

Genuinely despicable to force people to choose between protecting themselves from disease transmission and protesting for causes they care about

That looks like a rad party game!

Oh fancy, I’ll add it to the list. Thank you!

Holy Shit there’s more. I am going to definitely take these recommendations to heart.

I’ve seen footage of the celeste smb1 hack and it’s fucking incredible and I’d love to play that. Will definitely be checking it out.

Sons of Liberty was my first experience of the MGS series and I really enjoyed it. Absolutely off the wall parody of military games in the absolute best way.

Well done for persevering and fingers crossed you don’t get a fever like that any time soon again :P

Holy recommendations batman! Definitely glad to see a lot of the same games recommended here, makes me feel like they’re on the right track. Fire 'n Ice seems interesting, and I hadn’t heard of it before. Also added a new word to my vocabulary in the form of “kusoge”. Thank you!

Yeah, I’ve had such a love/hate experience with JRPGs. When the game gets out of the way and lets me just explore the world and its characters I fall in love. And then the gameplay comes back and I have to get out my spreadsheets and shit and I just fall asleep. CT comes highly recommended so I’m looking forward to giving that a go alongside EB and M3. I have Sea of Stars on my backlog which is apparently a spiritual successor to CT so that’ll probably follow along nicely.

Oh neat I’ll add those too, seems like a little fun!

I am very prone to completionism so I have intentionally avoided RetroAchievements as I didn’t want to get bogged down chasing them :P But I do very much appreciate the extra recco!!

Someone else mentioned that they liked the GBA remake of Adventure more - would you say it’s worth going that route or sticking to the OG?

I suppose I’ll have a look at FFT and FFTA both and see what’s up.

Ah I remember how painfully unforgiving those old side scrolling games could be, I’ll find my way through battletoads :D

Definitely excited to try Little Nemo, it’s one of the few recommendations people have posted that I genuinely just have never heard of

Man I have always enjoyed when I heard Mega Man soundtrack pop up in other places, the tunes are sublime. Just never played the actual games the music is from lol.

Looking forward to Starfox 64 it sounds like a good one!

If it has aged poorly and isn’t really necessary to enjoy the others, I’ll give it a miss.

As far as I’m aware, slowfall by holding the jump button is present as far back as SMB1 on the NES (although almost imperceptibly). SMW is definitely waaaaay better than SMB1, lost levels and doki doki panic/SMB2 but it’s still not responsive enough for my modern sensibilities :( As I say, it has so much going for it but the character controller at the core of all the gameplay I just can’t get along with :/

Neat, nice to hear that it’s not reeeeaally combat focused. I’m down for combat but from a game like that it’s just not what I’m there for.

I’ve just noticed, is your display picture Hornet holding a trans flag? That’s awesome

[Request] Retro Recommendations
I'm trying my best to dive back into the past and play all the gems that I missed as a kid because I was either born too late or too much of a kid to consider playing them. I found myself really disappointed going back to the old mario nes/snes titles because they felt really bad to play as I've become accustomed to modern platformer design sensibilities (like coyote time and responsive movement). Are there any oldies+goldies that have stood up to the test of time and not shown their age in the same way? Or are so good that they're worth playing despite showing their age? Preferably avoiding racing, sports, and final fantasy-esque titles. Not really interested in anything more recent than PS2 era either. I already have Earthbound in my sights as it isn't one I've played before but it comes highly recommended.
