I am so tempted to buy the domain just to make it redirect to a rick roll

I was taught python by my school but I would rather write in other languages but the difference in formatting still gets me after years

Managed to set up an instance using Lemmy-Easy-Deploy but federation is being a bit weird
Is it always weird on new instances, I'm seeing posts from a random amount of days ago, no votes and no comments. Also, is it possible to federate with communities automatically or do I have to search for them all one at a time to add them to my instance?

It’s on the .57 machine and in the same docker environment as the proxy

I’m not sure if this is a response to my comment but the article I linked isn’t about setting a secondary dns, the fritz!box has a function that allows it to temporarily change the dns (usually to 8.8.8.8) if the specified dns isn’t working. It is separate from the “normal” dns settings.

Weird issue with lemmy ansible
I have been trying to get an instance set up with lemmy ansible for a while and I got to the last step but if I try to access the instance via the proxy container -which I think is the right one- I get a 502 error. I was looking in the logs and I got this error message ``` 2024/01/20 23:02:15 [error] 29#29: *1 lemmy-ui could not be resolved (3: Host not found), client: 192.168.178.62, server: localhost, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", host: "192.168.178.57:13330" ``` it has 2 IPs, one isn't the machine's local ip (192.168.178.62) and I know it isn't my public ip. Is this actually the problem and if it is how do I fix this? I've been looking at old github issues about the same error but none of them are the same problem as mine.

https://fritzhelp.avm.de/help/en/FRITZ-Box-7530-AX-avme/avme/021/hilfe_internet_public_dns I found this guide for the fritz!box to set up a fallback dns, I think it should be on by default as it is on mine but I would read the article just to make sure

And crashing and burning in a production environment is an excellent thing to laugh at in 20 years

Also, could a reverse proxy be used to give cloudflare’s services to a port they don’t support?

So a reverse proxy is a way to manage subdomains? I read somewhere that it allows multiple different services to be hosted on the same port and I think I know that that is probably a lie.

Could you give somd examples of something to selfhost? I am only really aware of selfhosting lemmy and other fediverse stuff

Alright, thanks for trying to help. Will I need ssh on my main pc to get it to work on my pi?

Also in the comment this one is replying to, I meant to say set up correctly

I’ve replied to a different comment in this thread about what happened already

Step 7. I dont have the errors now but I don’t think I had ansible or ssh set up correctly

I dont really understand it as this is the first thing I am trying to selfhost other than a minecraft server.

Could someone explain how to set up a lemmy instance with ansible for an absolute beginner
I tried earlier today and I had no luck actually getting an instance running It would help if the explanation was specific to a raspberry pi

What happens to my instance if my domain expires?
I recently was gifted a raspberry pi 5 and was looking at domains to buy to host my own instance. What happens to my instance if the domain expires? Also, do freenom and .tk just not allow new domains to be registered anymore?
