You got to give us some context my dude. Why is funk whale not recommended by you?

I tried navidrome but the issue I ran into is that it would not play individual songs or sort through them, it would just play my albums in alphabetical order.

And I don’t know as far as jelly fin goes, I like it as a video platform but for music I couldn’t get it to just randomly display the songs and let me shuffle through them.

I’m looking for a music server that can see all of my songs and music and shuffle them and play them. Does anything like that exist?

I have no idea what’s going on with all of this but the news said that he was arrested for child pornography, so in my opinion if there was a hundred other things that he did right this one bad thing out does them all if that is what he did.

Because once or twice a year I take a road trip and the last thing I want to do is to drive for 3 or 4 hours and then stop for 45 minutes to recharge.

It’s actually something that is important to me. And I know there’s an argument for getting a rental internal combustion engine vehicle for my road trips but that’s an extra expense and extra mental overhead I don’t want to deal with.

I could be persuaded to purchase an electric car if it was reasonable, with a reliable 200 and some odd miles plus between charges and it was very cheap, but I would be talking 12 to $15,000 with those limitations.

In between 350 and 550 miles per tank depending on how I’m driving it (city vs hwy).

It’s a 2020 Chevy Malibu premiere.

If it’s all highway miles, yes, I get about 36 miles to the gallon on a 15 gallon tank. Mixed driving I get closer to 28 mpg. 2020 Chevy Malibu.

So what if it was a Chinese car that was imported through Chevrolet and Ford and assembled in America using 100% made Chinese parts?

There are similar occurrences in the past with ice vehicles.

If they sold cars that killed the owners, then they wouldn’t be able to sell more cars.

Sure you can have pessimism, totally understandable, but you should temper that pessimism with a modicum of pragmatism.

If it had a reliable 500 miles between charge, plus minus 50 mi depending on drive, I would be fine with it. My primary complaint with EVs is that right now they don’t have the distance to make me happy with them.

I want to be able to get into a vehicle and drive for 6 hours straight without a charge reliably for the life of the vehicle.

I won’t do that very often, but it’s still something that is a make or break option for me.

I will say that this is horribly fucked, nobody should have to burn through their 15 minutes of Fame in order to receive the basic goods and services that they have paid for.

I mean, you’re definitely not wrong. All of these mbin sites are typically pretty small but once they cross the point where you’re looking at getting a second server to keep the site running then prices start to escalate.

Modern servers are pretty good but I believe depending on how well the software is written that should be somewhere around 10,000 concurrent users.

If they are using cloud hosting their prices will escalate alongside their user counts but if they are using co-location or something like that they have to go out and buy additional boxes at the cost of several thousand dollars a piece and pay for extra space in the colocation center.

They should definitely make it easy for us to contribute to running the site or at the very least do regular planned donation drives kind of like Wikipedia.

Wonderful. I’ll check it out. Thank you!

I have a 4070 sitting around collecting dust that I got from a trade, I’ve been thinking about setting it up with whispr and TTS and having a way to talk to my house.

I have a couple of smart home integrations, mostly air conditioning, light switches, security, and doors.

What I would like would be to have a few speakers on the walls that can talk to my server where I can say something like, hey computer, turn on the lights in the dining room and the lights in the dining room would turn on without transmitting that information to Google or Amazon.

For instance, right now it is not against the law to watch a video on YouTube that somebody else uploaded.

If it turns out after the fact that somebody’s intellectual property rights were violated by the original video upload, you will not be punished for that, only the original uploader can be punished for the IP violation.

I technically have a dynamic IP but my IP address has not changed in nearly 3 years.

I live in a city with 500,000 residents.

But to answer op’s question, technically yes. You would be committing a crime to share your videos to a friend even if it’s only one friend.

However, should you do something like set up a VPN for your friend so that the communications between your home network and their home network are completely encrypted, it is highly unlikely that you will ever be caught or punished for the crime.

You should check your router to see if it offers a VPN generation function. My Netgear router allows me to VPN into my home network from any openvpn endpoint with the appropriate certificate installed, and the process is quite simple.

Having said that, I am not a lawyer, and if I were a lawyer I would not be your lawyer, so do not take my words as any form of incentive or instructions to actually convince you to commit a crime. You must rely on your own best judgment and act in your own best interests before doing anything that is legally shady.

In some instances widevine will cause OBS studio to capture a blank screen.

There’s not really a good way to work around that in software that is publicly available.

However, if you are willing to put the time and effort and you can always play the video into an HDMI splitter and then have one of the outs going into another computer that has an HDMI to USB adapter.

If the HDMI splitter is cheap enough it may break copy protection on its own and output an unfiltered signal that the USB adapter can then ingest. This takes a lot of time and creates very large files that then have to be re-encoded via handbrake or similar app, but if you have a single video or a couple of videos about your worried about losing forever and you absolutely have to have a backup that is a way to do it.
