An Evangelion AMV to I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance. I even remember the user but I haven’t been able to find since it got wiped off YouTube over 10 years ago.

If you’re using a 3b just be aware that hevc and x265 files won’t play properly.

Personally I’m only paying for Spotify (while working away in the background to build my own collection) and Kayo, which is an Australian sports service. There is a little bit of fragmentation for sport in Australia but I’ve been lucky with Kayo as they’ve picked up stuff I was paying for elsewhere and it’s become better value over the time I’ve been subscribed.

Netflix is the only major one I’ve ever really paid for and their password gimmick was the straw that broke that for me.

What streaming services do you pay for?
Obviously the answers here might be a bit lower than other places…

DoubleDouble.top

It’s not the most stable but when it works it works really well.

This is reassuring. Sounds like I’ll be good to go in a week when this download finally finishes.

Radarr/Sonarr to acquire most things. Still go around them where needed.

Then I use Kodi for all video. I don’t go off the main device enough to worry about a full server setup for it so I’ll just network share if I need to use another device.

Navidrome and substreamer for music in a proper server config with Tailscale tying it together.

It could still be worthwhile, just not as your only option. Do your local archiving as well but having it uploaded elsewhere could come in handy if the shit hits the fan.

EZTV and EXT Torrents cover me alright. Nyaa.si for the anime side.

Cracks and Steam
I haven’t really worried about cracked games since I started using Steam years ago but I had a bit of a revelation today regarding my willingness to play something and my willingness to pay for it. So my question is are there any risks to the standing of a Steam account if you play cracked games on the same system?

You can try looking at the archived version through Google if it’s a little bit older.

Just on your niche stuff like 1930s movies, have you checked Internet Archive? I’ve been surprised at some of the stuff I’ve found.

I’ll get rid of single episode anime at the end of the season because that’s when packs will take over what people download. I’ll keep seeding packs whenever I get them though.

I understand your comment but may need an ELI5 after looking at their site.

Just need to hold about 4TB for a few months until I buy more hard drives. I didn’t think of a seed box though which could be an option.

Cloud Storage
Anyone here got any recommendations for paid cloud storage options? Given where we are I’m looking for piracy friendly options.

Can you get Mastodon and Lemmy working together? Like is there a way to see them in the same feed?

I love it. It’s missing a lot of the things I disliked about the other place which is fantastic. It’s reasonably barebones by comparison and I am totally fine with it.

The only issue I have is some of my interests aren’t represented here (or I haven’t found them yet) and that’s something that will come with time or me actually putting in a bit of effort to create. Not the platform’s fault.

They’ve got GUI, it’s just very basic and lacks a lot of the features you would choose them for.

Proton’s good but they seem to neglect Linux a lot. Command line version is okay but missing split tunneling so I’m seriously thinking about flicking it for something else.

I’ve been on the torrents for ages but just started with Usenet this weekend. So I’m dual wielding with Usenet as first priority.

You could use the web interface and a dark mode extension for your browser.

If you set up Radarr/Sonarr (which is something we should have a guide on here at some point) then you can set it to prefer things in Spanish.

Jackett or prowlarr. I’ve used both and prowlarr has been easier and more reliable for me.

You can also use qbittorrent’s in-build search.

Thanks. I signed up and got a few things on the go and have found torrents to be faster. Might be on my end though.

Simple and concise, yet it’s the core info that I needed. Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation. Answers the questions well.

Usenet Recommendation Request
Finding information and torrent sites is pretty easy and well covered in the mega thread. Is there any chance Usenet sources and info can be added? That’s my general request but my personal request; are there any Usenet sources that are recommended for general, music, anime and/or pro wrestling content? I’m familiar with XWT and Nyaa.si on the torrent side.

Just need to make sure the end destination device will play them. I’ve been caught on this before with FLAC.

Privacy Badger, uBlock origin, LocalCDN. Containers are pretty good for Firefox too, keeps things segregated to stop cross-site tracking. Also I auto-clear cookies and cache on exit and just whitelist what I want to keep.

DoubleDouble.top will download straight from Spotify. Not sure if it will work on a playlist. It’s not the most stable but when it works it works.

Could be doable through something like HLS Downloader. It’s a browser extension for Firefox. I’m assuming there’s a Chrome equivalent.

And yes - irony.

If you’re self hosting a VPN and using it from within the same network there’s not really much point because externally it’s going to be the same thing.

It’s handy for cases where you want to access your home network from outside but pointless if you’re seafaring.

What did they cancel? Legit question because I only had one of my shows cancelled.

Slightly older (2021) article I found while searching for this place. It pretty much says what we’ve all been saying.

I think they do actually work with a 4, but not the 3b that I tried on.

You’ll generally want to look for h265 or HEVC in the description. These are newer codecs that preserve more quality in smaller file sizes. Neither will play on a Raspberry Pi if that’s a concern.
