Currently there are no significant new features (although we do now offer a windows exe installer). The initial stable release was mostly back-end changes intended to make future development easier and more maintainable.
Keep you’re eye out though, since there are some new features in the works (2FA, Internationalization, and maybe some mobile improvements).

[TriliumNext ](https://github.com/TriliumNext/Notes) has started as a fork of Trilium Notes at the beginning of 2024. The reason for the work is that the upstream project has entered [maintenance phase](https://github.com/zadam/trilium/issues/4620) and we would like to extend the application.

# ⬆️ Porting from Trilium Notes?
There is no change in the database structure.
TriliumNext Notes can be run instead of the original Trilium Notes and it should work out of the box, since it will reuse the same database. It should also be possible to downgrade back to Trilium Notes if required, without any changes or loss of data. Similarly goes for the server, it should work out of the box. It is possible to mix and match between Trilium Notes and TriliumNext Notes.

I can see your point, I should have clarified that I never use an external editor myself to edit the notes, I was just saying that you could do that if you needed to. I only export to Nextcloud so I can view it there just as I would have to save to Nextcloud if I was using Obsidian or some other file-based note-taking app.
I was just posting to get some eyes on the project in case there were some folks who wanted to join the community and help get things rolling even faster.

Thanks for the clear explanation, that makes sense to me. For me, I just use Trilium for all of the above, so it doesn’t affect me, but I could see how it would matter for those using it in the way you are 👍
The web app is identical to the desktop app. It is fully functional. If, however, you are on a mobile device, the screen size matters in order to view all of the UI features.
This is understandable and has been probably the most requested feature. So afaik the new organization is dedicated to providing native apps at some point after the initial stable release.
I’ve never quite understood why this is such a non-starter for most people. I just simply set up a script to export my Trilium notes to Nextcloud as flat files so I can still read my notes anywhere even without a Trilium client.
Trilium also allows you to edit the notes with an external editor, and then you can just re-import the note to update the note in Trilium.
I think note cloning is unique - note clones were a game changer for me.
Directories are notes too so you can add content to them just like any other note.
The biggest advantage for me: its open source
Server syncing is free without needing to use third party solutions.

* Only one user per server is currently supported (this is a high priority for the TriliumNext team)
* Some people don't like database note taking software since they prefer files in a directory, but this isn't an issue for me since I can automate the export of TriliumNotes (using the api) and save the notes to Nextcloud or my local file system for easy viewing.

This. Save yourself some time and just go with Trillium. It does not have a native mobile app yet, but when it does, there’ll be nothing to compare! :P
The issue could still be a fail-to-band issue if fail-to-band is looking at the user agent string (I’m not sure fail to ban looks at the user agent string, but it might be worth checking out.). The user agent string would likely be different on a mobile app versus a browser login.
That’s the beauty of next cloud in my opinion. You only need to enable the apps that you need. It would be nice if there was a little bit better discovery when it comes to finding apps. The app store is useful but only internal next cloud apps seem to be promoted there.
You’re on the right track with nextcloud however using the built-in photos app is going to be very slow. You should install the nextcloud memories app and you will see a very significant improvement in speed.
You can always export all of your notes in markdown format, but the notes are always saved in a database.
