I use musicbrainz Picard to sort it for me and then host it with jellyfin.

I’d go with a live image of whatever distro you’re most familiar with. I usually go with the arch iso or endeavor os if I need a GUI.

I just ran stress -c 1 on mine to keep the CPU usage above the idle threshold until I did enough stuff on it where that wasn’t necessary anymore

copy and paste it into a text file and stick it in a folder. I encounter an email that is worth archiving approximately once every year or so. Most just get deleted once they serve their purpose.

I’ve been using purelymail. 10 dollars a year and you can add as many domains and make as many accounts as you want.

I’m using Authentik with openID or saml for all my sso. I don’t want to ever touch LDAP.

Rehike. It’s meant to be a re implementation of the older hitchhiker youtube layout that youtube had back between around 2015-2020. It doesn’t do anything for privacy but that’s not the point of it so I don’t mind. I’ve tried things like newpipe and invidious but youtube is around 90 percent of my media consumption so having my history, likes, playlists, and recommendations synced between all my devices is too much for me to give up.

Whatever I’m feeling at that moment My server is “bigdellthing” because it’s a Dell r620 My laptop is “lily-legion-5-pro” because I was feeling unoriginal My other laptop is “hunterbidenslaptop” because there were some dumbasses talking about the damn hunter biden laptop conspiracy theory by me

Not on my server but it’s the distro I’m most familiar with and that means it’s also helpful for my laptop

For awhile I just constantly ran a stress test on one core

Not accidentally buy a server that takes 2.5 inch hard drives. Currently I’m using some of the ones it came with and 2 WD Red drives that I just have sitting on top of the server with SATA extension cables going down to the server.

I have my monitoring software running on my VPS so that if my server goes down for whatever reason I can still look at what might’ve caused it to go down. I also have Authentik running on it because I need my authentication system running to be able to login to said monitoring software. Lastly I have Mastodon on my VPS because the internet at my parents house doesn’t have the upload bandwidth for it.

I have all of this running on Oracle Cloud Free Tier. I don’t trust oracle in the slightest but I’m a broke college student so I take what I can get.

Reminded me I forgot to put rehike on the list of things I’m hosting

In the mood to self host more stuff and need ideas
What I currently have - Website - FreshRSS - Zabbix - Mastodon instance - Lemmy instance - Nextcloud - Vaultwarden - Jellyfin - qBittorrent - Synapse (Matrix homeserver) - Matrix iMessage bridge - Portainer - Authentik - 2 Minecraft Servers - BreezeWiki - Rehike (Youtube front end) Things I don't need - The *arrs (I'm not pirating things enough for them to be needed) - HomeAssistant

lol lemmy died almost immediately after i posted this time to figure out what the hell caused that

Considering this is going to be around a 5 user instance at most I think I’ll be good for awhile. Thanks!

How quickly will a lemmy instance eat up storage?
Just started self hosting this instance. Nothing on the docs mentioned anything about storage considerations.

If you wanna replace google docs the onlyoffice nextcloud integration is excellent

A NAS or Nextcloud or some other way of having files available remotely.

Having a big box with a lot of storage that you can put things on from anywhere is so incredibly useful.
