not sure if this is what you’re looking for but it’s an option that might be useful for you🤗

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/air-canada-labour-dispute-1.7321527 Obligatory fuck the CEOs and Shareholders > "We are bargaining. We are committed to reaching a deal. But we are saying that if that fails, the government should be ready to intervene and avoid the disruption," - Christophe Hennebelle (Air Canada’s vice-president of corporate communications) this is not what a company that's negotiating in good faith does --- > NDP won't support interference > > NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Thursday morning the party would not support efforts to force pilots back to work. > > "We're going to send a clear message again that we are opposed to Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, or any government, interfering with workers," said Singh.

lmao

DF’s the last person on this planet who’s justified to say that

licenseless? 🤔
these sorts of things tend to sketch me out but giving a +1 as someone smarter than me will know if this is trustworthy

the best thing to do is download and torrent to preserve humanity’s wealth in knowledge otherwise we risk losing immeasurable treasures to the sands of time

Personal recommendation:
qBittorrent

  • Repo
  • Licensed under: GPL-2.0 and GPL-3.0

Mom of the year

hope her kid recovers quickly✊

the hospital better figure out or create better people management/patient triage systems, cause shit like this shouldn’t happen at all

Losing Naomi Wu to the CCP was a catastrophic loss to the FOSS community, I remember that she once went directly to confront a company (I think located in China) to demand for the release of their modified version of a copyleft software

I hope she’s still alive and doing well

yup

people can and should be allowed to be interested in things foreign to themselves

uh huh
so why would Canadian’s informing themselves on the happenings of our neighbors be unhealthy?🤔🤔🤔🤔

He added that it’s come at the expense of Canadians consuming news about their own country’s politics.

that’s not how that works, just cause I inform myself on what’s happening in the US cause I also have friends there doesn’t mean I’m less informed on what’s happening over here, in fact:

I’d say it’s the opposite as I’m more concerned and informed about the pros that’s US citizens are gaining such as Right to Repair and the cons of the degradation of citizen rights that are being replicated here

Consuming anything from Fox news is def bad as you’re not even consuming junk food at that point but rage bait poison

not sure about the majority of the software but I’d recommend FreeCad as an alt to Solidworks

  • I’ve heard they’re about to hit their 1.0 release sometime in the near future

oh for sure

I vote based on what a party has previously done cause we all know that promises at this point are equivalent to PR hype right?

I really hope Ontarians remember this as they’re voting, otherwise the cycle will repeat :/

Voting NDP seems better

the CFP is portraying themselves as centrist but their policies and strategy is right learning
alrighty then🥱

Edit:
ok after rereading I actually like one of their policy “planks”:

increasing competition in the airline, telecommunications and agricultural sectors.

  • although the agricultural sector here doesn’t really make too much sense as it’s not the fault of the farmers that produce and goods are expensive, it’s our supermarkets like Loblaws that needs an increase in competitors

I’m hoping to see their popularity drop off a cliff

haven’t watched the video yet

I’m curious if they’ve pulled off their magic again

Edit:
Intel what the hell

If Intel gets sued to extinction, anyone who’s purchased an Intel 13/14th gen might become screwed without recourse when it comes to CPU support/remediation, as such:

  • whether you’re a company, retailer, manufacturer, and/or end user;
    • (if you’re in the US) you might want to consider contacting the FTC to investigate Pat Gelsinger and Intel’s board of directors for violation of consumer rights, warranty violations, manipulative communication/gaslighting, and a lack of disclosure of known (since 2022) defects for their 13 and 14th gen CPUs (intentionally selling a defective product).

Intel’s egregious predatory manipulative actions has harmed everyone as the hardware ecosystem is such a vital and integrated part of modern society.

Intel, instead of “chopping wood”, perhaps you might want to focus on getting a haircut, your old bangs clearly show split hairs.

If anyone has any recourse/accountability suggestions for Intel owners in other regions/countries please comment below

I’m going to try and figure out if there’s anything similar to the FTC for Canadians

She insisted that she cares about survivors’ stories, and outlined some of the actions the federal government has taken to address violence against women.

But rather than pivoting back to the topic of violence against women after airing that complaint, Vandenbeld called for a debate on a motion related to abortion rights – an issue the Liberals have tried to pin the Conservatives down on for months.

playing the same tactics as the conservatives is not the answer to solving anything.

Ignoring the domestic violence survivors and witnesses by playing politics is a disgrace to all Canadians

Anita Vandenbeld should consider stepping down

that is true but for beginners with a $1000 budget who ask about buying laptops to host services

  • I’d usually steer towards pc building as buying a laptop would usually be the worst of all options (which brings me great pain for my customers)
    • and building an actual server can be costly unless you’re buying easily accessible second -hand/used components

one thing I forgot to mention is that it also heavily depends on an individual’s use cases, restrictions, and preferences

that is definitely true however the added benefit is typically a longer warranty range as buying a laptop would typically mean that all components would be sold under a single flat warranty cycle/deadline

plus even if your computer is borked, you can still take it into a microcenter, memoryexpress, brick-and-mortor retailer to have their technicians figure it out the problem for a cost

I often have these time vs cost tradeoff discussions with my customers after they’ve been informed on the basics

hmm after rereading the initial comment I mean it’s not impossible but I’d posit that it’s highly unlikely as the majority of us have already experienced the dynamics where doing so would drive our users away to another instance like the initial reddit implosion

I’d assume a sponsored post on a Lemmy community would just be a pinned post that a mod got money for

and yes that’d probably be it

I’d recommend ignoring the uninformed or ignorant bait

it doesn’t make sense as the fediverse systems here are under an AGPL-3.0 license

That’s interesting, I didn’t know the mods here were mods there too.

tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case cause after reddit’s self-made implosion with the API access debacle, the majority of us migrated to (fediverse instances such as) mastodon and here

with a $1000 budget they might want to consider building a computer as desktops usually provide better performance/per cost rather than buying a $1000 laptop

  • desktop pcs can also be small if a small form-factor like ITX or mini-ITX is chosen (although mini-ITX can be pricey)

building is incredibly easy as there’s a plethora of tutorial vids online and you’re less likely to get screwed over by an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or retailer

  • diy vs. buying a pre-built

the fediverse here also has an active community for support !buildapc@lemmy.world

that is 100% true👍

I just saw a good opportunity to use the meme here so I took it😆

[Gamers Nexus] AMD Delays Ryzen 9000: “Did Not Meet Quality Expectations”
Looks like AMD saw Intel and is trying to capitalize and learn from Intel's mistake by delaying until they can guarantee a stable launch Personally I see this as a win for consumers as you're more likely to get a higher quality product by either company (AMD's move here is likely to echo in Intel)
fedilink

depends on your return window,

if you have a chance to refund both your CPU and mobo I’d personally recommend taking it and waiting to see what Intel does if you want to buy Intel’s future processors, you’d also get the option to take a look at AMD’s lineup as well

if you’re outside the return window for both it might still be worth refunding the CPU and seeing if you’d be able to swap the mobo with an AMD equivalent by contacting your board maker [Asus, MSI, Asrock, Gigabyte, NZXT, etc), if they say no then you still have the option to sell as a new board as it sounds like you were on the cusp of the build phase

Thinking about this situation again and I’m only just realizing the ripple effects this might have on the company’s future and the future CPU ecosystem

I have to wonder if Intel realizes that they swam out to the ocean with no plan in mind

[Gamers Nexus] Intel’s Biggest Failure in Years: Confirmed Oxidation & Excessive Voltage
### Key Takeaways: 1. If you or someone you know has had any system instability issues with their 13th or 14th gen Intel processor/CPU, GN recommends on immediately filing an RMA with Intel even if a previous one was rejected. 2. If you're an owner of a 13 or 14th gen, please update the BIOS as soon as you can and keep an eye out for newer microcode patches/AGESA updates from Intel coming in mid-late August 2024. 3. Please continue to be informed/vigilant when buying second-hand/used Intel 13 and or 14th gen CPUs as you probably don't want to buy a defective CPU.

Within the first minute of the vid I'm thinking holy shit Zotac! - easily googlable private customer and B2B info is publicly available ~~They're gonna have one hell of a class action coming their way~~ Edit: alright I'm 5mins in and now I'm thinking there might not be a class action anymore but Zotac's information handling is just funny and confusing now lmao love the quote from Zotac's partner😂: > If I can Google search my own credit memos... what the fuck is this? How can you be this insecure? How can you run a business like this?
fedilink

huh I guess it might be federation issues, either way fair enough!

For next time, plesase remove the duplicate posts instead of leaving them with the edited title “Deleted”

I wonder if this is where AI might be useful where it’s used to filter out all of the megacorp ads, popups, and other random garbage?

  • train LLMs on megacorp content and use it to filter out results
    • sponsorblock adds this as a toggleable option just like the “skip segment” UI video overlay button
