For me this falls in the category of “sit back and eat popcorn”. Both sides are arseholes I don’t mind which loses, in fact it’s a shame they all can’t lose

You don’t need to give the VM network access to download the software if you have a linux host. You can directly mount a virtual box drive from the host, copy the file(s) onto the drive and then unmount it and start the VM as per normal.

Search for qemu-nbd iirc (network block device) - I have the how to details saved on my host (ie not on me) so ping me if you want them. Note it’s a qemu app that works for vbox

Could be worth asking on selfhosted (how do I link a sub on lemmy ?) They probably have more relevant experience at this sort of thing.

Edit

Does this work ?

Lol. Yeah that was my reaction to the headline as well. “You did what ?”

Https://1ft.io also seems to work and by the branding seems unrelated to 12ft

PIA were taken over by a very dodgy company a couple of years ago, I don’t recommend people use them.

“Who knows what a company that had hidden malware in their software in the past is capable of today”

Well given op said download it from microsoft then yes it will be riddled with spyware but that’s the genuine windows experience® for you…

The downvoted guy you replied to is right. You can download the (genuine) iso off microsoft and install it without paying M$ anything, it will work fine other than not being able to change wallpaper etc.

If that small restriction annoys you the MAS (linked elsewhere in thread) is the answer

Yup. Nvidia are installable on any linux distro, some just have tools to make it easy.

I don’t recommend ubuntu but it has an easy to use device manager that makes installing nvidia straight forward.

I would suggest you look instead at Mint which has all the good stuff from ubuntu with all the cruft removed

Not everyone on the internet lives in western countries with 1gb fibre connections, hell remote parts of the US are still stuck on very slow ADSL if they don’t have access to starlink.

Your seeder may be in ButtFucke WY or could be in a little village in Phillipines or Nigeria
