I personally just use a VPN that connects to NSA servers so they think it’s themselves doing the torrenting.

To my knowledge the recent update on the reddit megathread was because users were getting malware from one of the links. Its why I moved here, actually.

I’m a beginner currently doing exactly the same thing, plus a but more.

For the server I’m using Proxmox as a hypervisor, which let’s me experiment with various OS’s as I choose. For my phone, I have a pixel with GrapheneOS, which I love.

Idk about the original GUI but its still not great on Linux. That said it does work.

Usenet. Like a little over $100 a year for a news host and an indexer or two and you get quality music downloads of basically anything, depending on your indexer. Once you’ve got most of what you want, just stop paying and you still have your music or TV or w/e you download, and there’s no real need to worry about a VPN.

I’ve tried a few different front ends for fun in the past and they’re fun to tinker with, I’ll admit. I don’t think I used freetube.

Also it was some months ago, but the biggest issue I found was that I couldn’t sync watch lists. I could add subs and things but if I watched something on my phone, whatever front-end on my computer would tell me I still hadn’t watched that video and recommend it.

Is there a way around this? Because, that’s a huge deal breaker for me. As an end goal, I want less Google in my life, but there are certain inconveniences I am unwilling to tolerate (however seemingly small lol).

Vanilla YouTube is obvious, but I’ve got ublock origin , sponsor block and that thing that renames stuff to non click bait.

It all just works and I don’t get adds and I keep all my sub’s and still get useful suggestions.
