I can once again refer to Jim’s Garages video about setting up wireguard on Docker. Very easy.

Wg-easy, with a nice interface.

I use nginx proxy manager for a reverse proxy and SSL cert automation. Works great for me but I would like to get into traefik sometime.

I got tired of the NPM and went to traefik for 2 reasons.

  1. NPM kept locking me out of my account (admin), like 4 times during the time I was using it. That meant that it was not reliable enough for daily use.

  2. From what I heard is that the NPM project only has 1 developer and so they can’t really respond and fix security flaws in a proper timeframe.

I’m using traefik now for internal traffic while VPN in if I need internal services while out and about.

Jim’s Garage has a great YouTube video on setting it up.

The web browser doesn’t care if the application is behind one, two or three rproxies. If I can still get to your application and guess your password or exploit a known vulnerability in your application then it’s game over.

Right!?

Your castle can have many walls of protection but if you leave the doors/ports open, people/traffic just passes through.

Yeah they are all double $$ and I recreated the container several times. The only thing that was changed in the compose file was the hash string - user:password.

I read from another older post that sometimes you need to clear all cookies in the browser. Did that also. Didn’t work.

I did however do the DNS challange again as I fucked up the older working config. The cert is different now but points to the same domain and subdomain. Can it be that the browser or traefik are still “remembering” the old cert, with other credentials?

Just grasping at straws here. I’m at a loss.

I can’t find anything online, traefik website or on YouTube about changing passwords. Only create one on a new install.

Should be a walk in the park to change a password. Wtf.

Edit: found the solution here: community.traefik.io/t/dashboard-with-basic-auth-but-cant-login-in-anyway/13235

I was using a wrong hash command in the terminal.

SOLVED!

How do I change Traefik (v2.11) password to the dashboard.
I have forgot the password to the dashboard and want to change it. How do I go about to change it? I tried to hash another in the terminal using apache-utils2, then to paste (the new password) in "the middleware.traefik-auth.basic auth.users=" Section of the compose file. Didn't work. I restarted the container to no avail, even removed the container and spun up another. Nothing worked. Is it really that hard to change password in traefik? Any hint or advise is welcome, although I really want to access the dashboard via https. Thanks!

Ultrasonic works in the same way as DSub.

Ah come on - they haven’t released a phone with 2TB of space yet. /s

Best practice is to keep each project in its own folders with their respective docker compose file in there.

Later, on your journey you will want more granular control especially with networks and reverse proxy setups.

Oh KML support!

Looking forward to that!.

;)

I’ll use it for running though. Hmm. I’m using KML on my running sections. Is it possible to get some stats and graph for pinpointing and an average?

Yes, I couldn’t even use whoogle with the free tier as I got ratelimited on normal search queries.

Needless to say that many ppl share the same (proton vpn IP) on the free tier.

Well well well… We have a Google fanboy here.

While you at it, route all your traffic though Google’s new and shiny proxy, for that extra privacy peace of mind. /s

Want to try/move to immich, but nixos doesn’t have it as a package(the only package i couldn’t find out of thousands i’ve used)

Immich always breaks for me. Even on fixed version its a hassle. Tried it maybe 4 times during intervalls, hoping that some consistency would be implemented, but never seems to go out of alpha versions of trying out a completely different configuration…

Yeah. Docker for servers.

Flatpak for Desktops/Laptops.

Although I currently run my Docker stack on my desktop because my NAS server broke down. But its on servers Docker really shines.

Feel free to take it as a chance to present yourself to the community!

Hello, my name is Zingo and I have a selfhosting addition going back to 2016 when I bought my first NAS with docker capabilities.

Community: Hi Zingo! Welcome!

Thank you.

Currently struggling more than even as it starts to take over my life. I have tried over hundreds of services.

I’ll try to find strength to list some at a later stage in this healing process. Sorry no bonus points. Maybe in the next session.

Thank you all for this awesome support. I would be lost without you. 💓

Yeah. Navidrome fucks up your experience. If your id tags are not 100℅ that is.

Folder based music server is the way to go.

Gonic is really too bareboned and really is for low power devices. The better alternative would be Polaris which has a better web interface.

If you have modern hardware (celeron +), Airsonic is the best IMO.

I have been running a Synology NAS, 416 play with a Celeron n3060 (I think) dual core with 8GB ram.

It runs all my docker services (around 20) with no issues. Containers are more RAM bound than CPU. Uses about 40-45 ℅ of the RAM.

The only limit is when transcoding as suppose to Direct playing a movie. Then it really taxes the CPU. But I don’t really watch movies so its a non issue.

So a NAS doesn’t need a beefy CPU if used as a file server. Can be tricky if you run Plex on it though depending on your codecs.
