Haniyeh had played a leading role representing Hamas in months-long truce negotiations, which have repeatedly appeared to reach the cusp of a breakthrough, only to collapse at the last moment.

So yes, Netanyahu definitely wants a regional war to stay in power longer, and probably to try to force the US’s hand to participate on their side.
Just because my government leaders dislike Iran, Israel gets to attack their capital. We apparently have sanctions against roughly a third of countries. I wish they’d be applied to Israel. But because of evangelicals, Israel is a protected special class of country unlike any other and they can do no wrong. I hate a large swath of my fellow Americans.
