Let’s get this to the front page.

“Stop using X”

Same website: “Follow us on X”

There’s more reasons to drop X than just this petition:

  1. xAI can be used to filter speech more effectively than keyword filters could. They can pull in your political views and censor you accordingly.
  2. Do we really want Elon Musk to have the power to pose as our national officials during the current political crisis?
  3. X is not fully accessible without an account.

Post title: “ban X” — an insane idea that is not going to happen.

The petition: “stop using X” — a good idea that they should’ve done already.

Can we not block a fascist propaganda tool being used specifically to destroy democratic society? Why are we just imagining that we don’t actually have any choice in society?

We need BIG change all across the board. That one is actually very valuable, as we are fighting a half century info war that people can’t keep pretending isn’t a thing, no matter how much it sucks to think hard and learn about politics, while actively cooperating to enforce severe change from the bottom up. We need to be resistant to manipulation and group takeovers. Study how cults recruit. Study anything on Russian propaganda especially. Collaborate and talk locally, and find other trustable local groups willing to cooperate and continue the collective action.

It actually isn’t impossible to effect real change, even if decades of socialized propaganda tell you otherwise.

That being said, acting towards your local governments and getting local governments to cooperate from the ground up with grassroots movements to protect democracy as it is in peril.

Id like to effect change, election reform, and wealth redistribution, or we all are fucked. If we just give up without fighting, we already lose. And it is the saddest way to lose, to just roll over and watch everything you love be taken from you piecemeal.

Already signed this! Hope more people do.

Saskatchewan’s DUI hire recently posted on X about how he is petitioning the government of Canada to ban the swastika. The Moe-ron is running the province of Saskatchewan in slow-Moe but really using X to say “hey let us ban an Asian religious symbol,” is a bad idea. If it was solely a nazi thing sure ban it but saying ban it full stop on X is a little counter productive.

💩

Don’t these petitions get dropped when an election is called? Unlikely that it’ll ever actually hit the floor.

Well, just means that it’ll have to be submitted again.

Why should anyone waste their time signing an e-petition that doesn’t include all American based social media when every one of those companies support Trump?

Don’t divide the problem up and push for real legislative change that impacts all social media if you don’t want to waste your time.

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress

It doesn’t need to be perfect it needs to make sense, and it doesn’t make sense to work to ban one American social media company when they are all guilty.

Don’t use useless platitudes to make a point.

Did you even read the petition? It even gives the suggestion of using decentralized networks and community regulated platforms. What part of that makes you think they’re going to jump to posting on Facebook?

Did you even read my comment? It even gives a clear point that all American social media companies are guilty. What makes you think Facebook or Google wont work with the Trump administration to manipulate Canadian accounts when they support the US administrations policy and goals?

I suggest you don’t respond to me unless you have a coherent point to make.

all American social media companies are guilty

I don’t disagree with you, but you’re arguing about switching to another US company when nobody is suggesting that.

The petition says:

transition official government communications away from Twitter/X to more secure, community-regulated platforms that prioritise public safety, accurate information, and accessibility. We encourage the government to explore publicly accountable alternatives, including decentralised networks, to ensure reliable and responsible communication with Canadians.

This seems like the opposite of American social media companies. What part do you disagree with? Facebook and Google are quite clearly not “publicly accountable alternatives”

I don’t disagree with you, but you’re arguing about switching to another US company when nobody is suggesting that.

I don’t know what defect you have but hopefully this 1,000+ entry list that isn’t 100% Twitter accounts, including official Police and Military pages, will help you get it.

It is not about Transferring from Twitter to another, it is about calling to transfer all accounts off of all American platforms instead of wasting time on one genius.

I guess since the petition we have doesn’t point out every single problem that exists, we better not sign it, because we need perfection, a minor improvement is unacceptable. /s
