I realize that letting people outside Tumblr read Tumblr posts means losing ad revenue on new users, but keeping Tumblrites on Tumblr and allowing them to bring in Mastodon/Lemmy/pixelfed posts would keep the existing users more glued to the platform (more ad revenue). I guess they’re gunning for new users primarily.
They are. They want growth (more users), not more engagement from current users.
Not really a surprise. They were gunning for new users with that announcement, not a new engineering project.
We all predicted this but still it sucks. I actually resurrected my old Tumblr in the hope it would be a thing. Oh well, fuck it and them, I’ll just start a FireFish
