Hello, I want to self host an instance so I’m only beholden to myself and the military forces that watch all. I only have one rule, and don’t care much for moat things, but I’d like to create safe and friendly place for people like me
A place to share alternatives to popular online services that can be self-hosted without giving up privacy or locking you into a service you don’t control.
Rules:
Be civil: we’re here to support and learn from one another. Insults won’t be tolerated. Flame wars are frowned upon.
No spam posting.
Posts have to be centered around self-hosting. There are other communities for discussing hardware or home computing. If it’s not obvious why your post topic revolves around selfhosting, please include details to make it clear.
Don’t duplicate the full text of your blog or github here. Just post the link for folks to click.
Submission headline should match the article title (don’t cherry-pick information from the title to fit your agenda).
No trolling.

I would advise against it.
Let’s also add
That is actually somewhat less of an issue now that bans and content removal are federating. Kbin is the easiest to abuse at the moment, but, luckily, there aren’t many instances of it.
“Less” is still not “gone” unfortunately. You do still have to be very vigilant because federation from unknown instances intentionally spreading that stuff can and will end up getting garbage on to your server’s hard drive that you might not even notice.
get vps account, clone repo, configure server, configure domain. profit?
Thanks! What’s clone repo mean tho? I generally use vpn, I think that should be default systems globally if humans get shit together
