I know you specifically asked for free but if you VPN to Turkey, NextDNS only costs $4.50 per year.
How’d you manage this price? I’m showing 499 Turkish lira or about $16.50 a year? Still a bit cheaper but not down to $4.50!
I should have double checked. My last bill was $4.50 but they bumped the price. It’s a shame, but I’ll still use it as it’s a good service.

Are nextdns alright in a commercial setting? It’s one of those i inherited with the job but because it works, I haven’t touched it yet. Should i bump this task in my priority list?

I use mullvad on my personal stuff. I love their business model.
I’ve been switching to https://controld.com every month after hitting my NextDNS limit. Seems to work fine. If it keeps working then I may just forget to switch back to NextDNS altogether.
Also a Control D user. OISD full has worked great for me!

ControlD has a free tier, albeit with less functionality

Pihole and wireguard to use it outside the house is what I use.

You are right, I can toggle between home VPN (pihole) and payed VPN, but cant use both at the same time. Im sure you can also route trafic to use payed VPN trought your own wireguard, but I never tried that
I have pihole setup for home. WAN you please elaborate what you mean for when I’m not home and on my cell phone data?
In my wireguard config I have it’s DNS set to the IP of my pihole. That’s all I had to do. I’ve had this config running for a bit so I don’t remember if I had to change anything else.
This is what I do, but with Unbound dns on opnsense with dns forwarding to my business cloudflare account which gives me additional filtering options.
Allows me to properly do dns caching and filtering in Unbound and then leverage cloudflare to do additional security threat filtering on top.
Then it’s just a matter of setting up a firewall rule to redirect any port 53 to the local Unbound dns and blocking all 853 traffic to ensure all iot devices aren’t using their own hard-coded dns.
I’m running AdGuard home (at home on $10 x86 thin client) and simply opened ports on my router and pointed my domain to the ip. Worked like a charm. Then my ISP added me CGNAT, so I’ve added free VPS doing wireguard tunnel home, so everything works fine. I run AdGuard with Let’s encrypt certificates, so I use the private DNS setting in Android directly with my domain. I’m running my home net on an unlimited 4G LTE connection.
I’ve been using AdGuard public DNS on my phone for years and it’s been working really well for me. It blocks most of the ads in android apps. I use Firefox with uBlock Origin in addition to that and I hardly ever see any ads in the browser.

There’s Mullvad DNS and RethinkDNS if you want ad blocking.

You could try libredns
They have options for no-ads and DNS over https.
It is maintained by libreOps

This is the answer!
noads.libredns.gr

From what I’ve heard, yes! They claim they keep no logs, and of course it’s all open source. But of course do your own research!
