I agree with this line of thinking. So much of the public space is littered with ugly, invasive and obtrusive ads. Seeing ads just brings up small amounts of anger and annoyance because of how in your face and manipulating they can be.
There’s a digital billboard six blocks away that lights up the wall on my 38th floor bedroom at night whenever it cycles through a white ad at 3am. Seriously? What the fuck.
How about we just ban all ads for fossil fuels. No sponsoring Canadian teams or events, no TV, radio or print ads, no “brought to you by the petroleum lobby”. Same treatment as tobacco. They have had a century to monopolize the energy sector, if they can’t hack it without putting their logo on toddlers playing soccer then I guess they’ll just have to fail.
